Rand Gettler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2015.
Rand G. Gettler, 60, of Rollingstone, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at his home with family.

Rand was born April 10, 1955, to LeRoy and Mary (Clancy) Gettler in Triumph. He grew up in St. Charles, where he had many lifelong friends and fond memories. He was a very successful athlete at St. Charles High School. He was proud of setting a single-season rushing record in football, and having been on the track team that won the regional meet.

He married his high school sweetheart, Julie Keller. They were best friends and soulmates for 42 years.

He had many career achievements, but he was most proud of his children. Lee is a professor at the University of Notre Dame; Kate is a registered nurse working in cardiac care; and Kristin is a special education teacher. They were the joy of his life, and he could not have asked for better. He was blessed with one grandson, Leif Clancy. He also had a special niece, Jen, who was like a daughter to him; her sons, Brady, Eric, and Chase, also held a privileged place in his heart.
Rand was honored to be CEO of Saint Anne of Winona. He spoke often of the excellence of the Benedictine Health System. He was proud to have served the health care needs of the Winona area for more than 35 years.

He also served on the Board of Trustees at Holy Trinity Church and was a past president of the Winona Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Winona Rotary Club and the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce Board.

Rand is survived by his loving wife, Julie; son, Lee (Laura); daughters, Kate (Craig) Theede, and Kristin Gettler; grandson, Leif; brothers, Jim and Mike; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Victoria Fabian.

Memorial Mass for Rand will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, with the Rev. William Kulas officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Please greet the family following the service, where a luncheon will be served.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Saint Anne Foundation.

He always treated me like I was part of the family. This picture of Randy and Julie is from the 08' class reunion. He cast a positive light on everyone he knew and I am sure very one he met. Randy made the world a better place to live in. This breaks my heart.
