I first met Ray in 1976 at Colonial Park Country Club when he drove up to a group I was playing with at hole number 7. He drove the golf cart and I put my walking club carrier on his cart. As he got out of the cart, I thought to myself "now here is someone that I can finally beat at golf". I wasn't very good, but was in love with the game and also new at it. Well I went right and long. Ray went straight down the middle. As it turns out, I saw parts of the course that I was not familiar with---the middle, short grass, unobstructed views of the green. But that was Ray's ball. He saw parts of the course that were not familiar to him---out of bounds, behind and in trees, in dirt,...well, that was me. Ray beat me that day and he also out performed all the others in the group that day. He was in the low to mid 70's and I had never been with anyone that could do that. When we finished the round everyone suggested we all go into the 19th hole. That was new to me and Ray didn't stay long...Just long enough to collect his winnings and to tell me that the game of golf is good to get your mind off your work and keep you fresh and its healthy. He stated the 19th hole is not a place you need to stay in too long, just go home and be with your family. I asked the group about Ray and they told me he was known as Power Bauer and had been a professional baseball player. I was really Impressed. Through the next several years, I played a lot of golf with Ray. I will always remember this gentle great man. Dr. Michael Wood
