Raymond Leonard Langton of Nashville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Ray was born on June 19, 1937 in Uxbridge, Middlesex, United Kingdom , a suburb of London. As a young man, he developed a passion for jazz music and began a career in the aeronautical industry. In 1963, he moved to Montreal, Canada with his young family and began a long career in the telecom business. He came to the U.S. in 1977 and settled in Nashville, TN for a few years then was transferred to Cherry Hill, NJ. In 1990, he accepted a job transfer back to Nashville where he resided in the Green Hills area until just recently. Post retirement, Ray started a small business consulting firm servicing artists in the Nashville music industry as well as promoting Nashville jazz artists abroad. Ray - being a musican himself - had a strong love of the Nashville music scene and often attended symphonic and jazz music events. He was also an avid runner, completing many marathons through the years in multiple cities throughout the U.S. as well as London. Ray loved to play golf and tried to get in 18 holes whenever he could. He had a passion for travel and visited numerous cities throughout the world both for business and personal trips. Ray is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Nicole Langton, of Durham, North Carolina; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Wade Jenstead and grandsons Luke and Alex of Roswell, Georgia; and from the United Kingdom, his brother and sister-in-law, George and Sue Langton, his nephews Steve and Matthew Langton, his niece Katie Kithakye and his cousins Lesley, Jacqui, and Denise. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Sunday October 29, at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204, followed by a "Celebration of Life" reception on site. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Monroe Carrell, Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Nashville.

Just now finding this out. I met Ray when I was in banking and he use to come in and tell me the most entertaining stories, he became a friend and mentor for me in starting my own business. He will be missed greatly and I'm sad I wasn't able to tell him how much he helped me in my search for my next big leap. I truly feel like he came into my life for a brief couple of years for a reason.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ray when my students created the web site for his company Envigur 12 years ago. Since then, we remained friends and I continued to be his web and IT guy. Ray was full of life, loved jazz and traveling, and introducing people to the genre.
He was also a fighter. Every time he would get unwanted news about a treatment that didn't work, he was looking for the next treatment, the next step. He loved life so much.
I was so sorry to hear of his passing. I was fortunate to be a recipient on an email list where he sent pictures of his travels. He kept telling me, "Dale, we need to have coffee soon." I'm sorry that there will be no more coffees. I found out about his passing at the time of his celebration of life. I'm sorry I missed it. I certainly would have been there.
It was a pleasure to know you Ray. I hope our paths cross again in another time/space.
I would appreciate an email from a family member so I know what to do with his web site and email address.

I am so very sorry to hear that Ray is not telling stories, jokes, trying to solve other people's problems with his trenchant wit and a rasher of advice. I always admired his energy and verve. He was running marathons long past when most of us had blown out our knees and joints. I was very fond of Ray Langton - -a merry prankster in the best sense. Safe travels Ray and keep the trail marked for the rest of us.
