It is with heavy hearts that the family of Raymond Clifford Thweatt, MD, 91, of Mechanicsburg, PA, (formerly of Elmira, NY), passed away on October 24, 2025.

Born on May 2,1934, in Niagara Falls, NY, Raymond is the son of the late Robert Clifford Thweatt and Irene Rose Klein.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Joan S. Thweatt (Spiller.) He is also survived by his daughter, Sharon T. Kronyak, his son, John R. Thweatt (Marie), his granddaughter, Katherine E. Thweatt (Celeste), his grandson, Cameron J. Thweatt (Cheyenne), his grandson, Sean R. Thweatt, his great granddaughter, Raye Leigh Thweatt, and his niece, Linda Barnum.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved stepfather, John Vincent Maglio, whom Ray considered to be his true father, his son in law, John Nicholas Kronyak III, his grandson, Benjamin John Kronyak, his sister, Roberta Barnum, his beloved grandmother, Daisy Thweatt, and his best and most devoted friend, Louis, "Lou," Devillers.

Raymond graduated from Middletown High School in Ohio. He went on to graduate from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1955 with his bachelor's degree. He attended medical school at the University of Buffalo Medical School, graduating in 1959 with his M.D. He completed his internship at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Niagara Falls, NY, from 1959 to 1960, and his residency in anesthesiology at Meyer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, NY, from 1960 to 1962. He was the assistant professor of anesthesiology at the State University College at Buffalo, prior to moving to Elmira. He joined the staff of the Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital as a board-certified anesthesiologist in 1968. He served for three years as the medical staff president. Ray retired from the practice of medicine on December 31, 1999, having improved thousands of patients' lives. He was known as a kind doctor with a gentle sense of humor. His survivors will forever be asked "are you related to Dr. Thweatt?"

Raymond was a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners as well as the American Board of Anesthesiology, the Chemung County Medical Society, the New York State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the International Anesthesia Research Society. Raymond had experience in all forms of general and conduction of anesthesia; including open heart, neurosurgery, and pediatric surgery.

Outside of the medical field, he was a board member of the Tanglewood Nature Center for several years, as well as a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a former member of the HOGS of Corning, Ny, the Popular Rotocraft Association, the National Aeronautic Association, the Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association, and the National Warplane Museum. Raymond enjoyed fishing, taking care of his animals on his small farm, and hunting deer and pheasant with his stepfather.

Raymond will be deeply missed by his beloved family and devoted friends. Services will be private and at the discretion of the family.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Ray's memory, donations should be made to St. Jude’s or Shriners Children Hospitals.
