Raymond Wittig Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2025.
Raymond Shaffer Wittig, known to those who loved him as Tim, was born on December 13, 1944 in Allentown, PA, to Raymond Beatty and Alice Shaffer Wittig. He passed away on February 1, 2025 in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Tim grew up in New Milford, Pennsylvania, and received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Penn State University in 1966 and 1968, and Juris Doctor from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, PA in 1974. He also served in the United States army from 1969 to 1971.

In the course of a multi-faceted career, he served as counsel to the House Small Business Committee of the House of Representatives, an attorney in private practice in Washington, DC, and later founded Geo-Centers Technology Management Advisors, which was later absorbed intact into SAIC. In addition to the practice of law, Tim taught at the college level, wrote articles and gave presentations to professional meetings concerning the protection of intellectual property. He ended his career in private practice as a consultant.

Tim and Beth Glover Wittig were married in 1975, and settled in the Washington DC area, where they raised two wonderful daughters. Tim was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Olney, MD. where he sang in the choir for many years.

Tim was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fly fishing in Alaska, Colorado and Montana and a private lake in Pennsylvania. He and his beloved wife, Beth, took on adventures at home and abroad, collaborating on home improvement projects to their house in Rockville, Maryland and traveling the world, notably Africa and New Zealand.

In 2022, Tim and Beth relocated to their second home in Wilmington, North Carolina to join their daughters. Tim joined the Church of the Good Shepherd in Wilmington.

Tim was an accomplished woodworker, who turned beautiful bowls from locally sourced wood. He was a member of the WAWA, the Wilmington Area Woodturners' Association.

Tim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beth Glover Wittig; daughter Allison Callahan and husband William; daughter Meaghan Biddle and husband Wendell; and 6 grandchildren: Gray and Jared Callahan, and Asher, Sophia, Noah and Owen Biddle.
