Rebecca C. Cronlund

Rebecca C. (Croll) Cronlund, 99, of Shrewsbury, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at York Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 E. Main St., New Freedom, with the Rev. George M. Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg, at the convenience of the family. The J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, is assisting with arrangements.

Born Sept. 4, 1913 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Margie G. (Dengler) Croll. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Martin H. Cronlund.

Rebecca was a 1935 graduate of Swarthmore College. She was a former resident of the Gettysburg area, moving to Shrewsbury in 1985. Rebecca had been employed with the Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 as a school teacher, retiring in 1973. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Freedom and a former board member of the Children and Youth Services of Adams County.

Rebecca leaves a son, Martin H. Cronlund Jr. and his wife Colleen of Bowie, Md.; three daughters, Kara Small and her husband Michael of Weaverville, N.C., Lenore Cronlund of Woodbury, N.J., and Louise Miles and her husband Doug of Frenchtown, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Catherine Allen and her husband Chris, David Cronlund and his wife Tracy, Matthew Cronlund and his wife Frances, Michael Cronlund and his wife Tara, Christine Small, Jennifer Small, Spencer Miles and his wife Emily and Wesley Miles; and four great-grandchildren, Katrin Cronlund, Jacob Allen, Henry Cronlund and Adeline Cronlund.
