Published by Asbury Park Press on Aug. 7, 2018.
Reginald "Reggie" Sims

Freehold - Reginald "Reggie" Sims, 51, was born on May 27, 1967 and entered into glory on August 5, 2018 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. Reggie attended the Freehold Borough School system and graduated from Freehold Borough High School in 1985, where he finished in the top third of his class and was voted the most athletic. He attended Ashland University in Ohio, on a partial football scholarship. Reggie was a three-year letterman with the Ashland Eagles, winning three conference championships. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, and a minor in sociology in 1989.

From 1990-1993, Reggie coached softball and football at Freehold Township High School. He then went on to Rutgers University serving as a graduate assistant football coach, and then was promoted to Director of Football Operations for ten years.

Upon leaving Rutgers, Reggie became a salesman for White Rose Food Distribution for six years. He also held management positions at Walmart and Saker ShopRite. Reggie has been employed with Freehold Borough since 2011 and was also a driver for First Class Limousine.

Committed to community service through the years, Reggie served with the Freehold Borough Board of Adjustment, YMCA, Housing Authority, Recreation Commission, Little League, Colonial Basketball League. While he was involved with numerous organizations, the one that made him the proudest was being a member of the Freehold Fire Department, where he served for 27 years and was the Department President. Upon his death, Reggie held the position of Captain.

Reggie confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age while attending Bethel A.M.E. Church in Freehold, holding several leadership positions including trustee. He later joined Harmony Ministries USA, Inc. in Lakehurst where he was an active member with his wife and children.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Delilah Sims; daughters, Chamara Adams, Cydney, Cierra and Camryn Sims; son-in-law, Emmanuel Batista; grandson, Bryan Batista; mother, Eva Sims; brother and sister-in-law, Jaye and Danielle Sims; sisters, Pam Sims and Gerri Sims, seven nieces, three nephews and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Arrangements are as follows: Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 9th from 5-8 PM at Bethel AME Church, 3 Waterworks Rd., Freehold with a firemen's service at 7 PM. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10th at 11 AM at Harmony Ministries USA, Inc. (401 Chestnut St., Lakehurst, NJ 08733). There will be a viewing from 10-11 AM before the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Freehold Firemen Memorial Fund. Checks can be made out and sent to the Freehold Fire Department (49 West Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728) and a note should be left in the check memo that it is for the memorial fund in honor of Reggie Sims. Donations can also be made to the Clyde F. Barker Penn Transplant House at https://socialfundraising.apps.upenn.edu/socialFundraising/jsp/fast.do&fastStart=customTemplateByNameOrId&customApplicationNameOrId=penntransplanthouse.

Reggie Sims Family:

A very belated condolences to your family on passing of Reggie and now overlooking all of you from heaven.
I was Reggie's Athletic Trainer during his playing days at Ashland University. I got to know Reggie very well and knew he was destined to be successful in his profession and as a husband and father.
We talked on the phone over the years during his tenure @ Rutgers. He really loved football and talked about his growing family over the years - I could hear in his voice how proud he was of his wife and children.
Your husband and father was highly respected as a student athlete during his time at A.U; consider my friendship with Reggie a blessing.
My thoughts and prayers to your family moving forward.
Sincerely,
Brian Sid Siddall
