I will see you again with the eye of my heart —Lakota saying Renee G Joyce (Previously Known As Ina J Hecker, née Shapiro) passed on August 31, 2021 from complications of pancreatic cancer. She was 67 years old. Renee was born in Brooklyn and grew up in North Jersey. After graduating from Lafayette College, where she majored in Anthropology/Sociology, she attended Wesleyan University, receiving her Master's Degree in Cultural Anthropology. Miss Joyce spent her professional career as an editor, researcher, and grant writer. She worked as a manuscript editor for several NYC publishing houses, copyediting both popular and mass-market books. She went on to edit medical pieces, including books, academic journal articles, continuing medical education materials, and pharmaceutical publications. She served as Managing Editor of Pfizer Labs for several years. Miss Joyce also worked as a medical researcher and a clinical trials coordinator. Miss Joyce resided in Manhattan and then, Brooklyn, after completing her academic degrees. She went on to live in Louisiana for many years. My friend. We lost touch many years ago and I Googled you today only to find out you had left this world. Fly high and watch over all of us. The world is a little less bright now. May you rest in the sweetest peace.

I grew up with Renee, in the same town - her 9-month younger cousin. You were one of my true "go tos" - when sad or joyful, confused or rock solid... you were one of the main people in my life I wanted to share those times with. You were such a good listener, gave such great feedback - you always had something "right" to say. And, when we weren't talking about the personal you or me or the family, we talked about ideas, information... life. I miss you.

I always enjoyed running into you while walking our pups in Greene Countrie. We will all miss you around here. Thinking of all her family and friends during this time. Rest In Peace.

Rest in Peace my friend. You were one amazing lady. The Village is not the same without you. I miss you but I am grateful for all the times we had, especially these last few months.
