REX E. DOUGLASS

REX E. DOUGLASS, 89, of Markle, passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Grant County on Oct. 4, 1931, Rex was the son of the late Howard and Bethina (Pence) Douglass. He married Marilyn Harnish in Bluffton on April 12, 1952; she survives. A 1949 graduate of Union Center High School, Rex served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. He was a lifelong farmer in Wells County and was a member of Markle United Methodist Church. He also served on the Federal Land Bank board of directors for many years. Rex was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. In addition to his wife, Rex is survived by two sons, Philip (Marcia) Douglass of Muncie, and Steven (Leslie) Douglass of Markle; two daughters, Patricia (Tim) Baker of Ossian, and Susan (Joe) Costa of Markle; along with 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Aside from his parents, Rex was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Mae Fausz. Private family services are being held at Goodwin Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton.
