Reynaldo "Rey" Martinez, 66 of Clovis, NM, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on February 9, 2023.
Rey was born on December 4, 1956, in Plainview, Texas to Roberto Martinez and San Juana "Janie" (Aldaco) Martinez. Rey was raised in Bovina, Texas, where he also attended school-graduating from Bovina High School in 1976. Rey married the former, Patricia "Patsi" Chavez, on January 29, 1983, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Clovis. Rey's career was with the City of Clovis Public Works Department, as a Sanitation Superintendent. Rey retired from this position after 34 years of honorable service. Rey was honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps, with 9 years of service, and also served with the New Mexico Army National Guard for 14 years.
Rey was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He was a member of the Men's Bible Study Group, and a 3rd Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council in Clovis. Being an avid gardener and landscaper, Rey not only beautified his home, he also worked tirelessly at Our Lady of Guadalupe, earning Garden of the Month, twice, for the Church. Rey also earned awards for his accomplished Christmas decorating ability. In his spare time, Rey was a talented craftsman and a master at grilling. However, his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his beautiful family.
Rey is preceded in death by his parents; his In-laws, Antonio and Mela Chavez; brothers-in-law, Antonio Chavez, Samuel Chavez and Richard Chavez; his Godfather, Julian Aldaco; and maternal grandfather, Baltazar Aldaco.
Rey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patsi, of the family home; his daughters, Manuela Martinez of Albuquerque, NM, and Selina Martinez (Onofre Cordova) of Santa Rosa, NM; his siblings, Walter (Cindy) Martinez of Battle Creek, MI and Eva Vargas and Mary Lou Martinez, both of Rosenberg, TX; and his In-laws, Albert (Irene) Chavez, Ramon (Veronica) Chavez and Cristobal (Debra) Chavez-all of Albuquerque, NM and Marcia (Greg) Keck of Midland, TX. Rey is also survived by a host of Godchildren, nephews, nieces, family and friends.
