REYNOLD FRED HERTEL AMANA, IA
Reynold Fred Hertel, was born April 26, 1928 in Amana, IA to Max and Helene (nee Pitz). He married Jean Toepfer on April 21, 1952 in Madison, WI. Reynold is survived by Jean and their four children: Carolyn (Dave) Perryman, Robert (Janice) Hertel, Stephen (Melanie) Hertel, and Gregory Hertel. Also surviving are his brother, Stanley Hertel of Amana, IA; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Reynold attended the University of Iowa where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism in 1950 and a Master's Degree in Political Science in 1951. Reynold served our country for five years in the Air Force and was stationed at Beale Air Force Base in Marysville, CA from 1955-1960. The Hertels moved to Joliet, IL in 1966 where Reynold worked as the Managing Editor of the Joliet Herald News until his retirement in 1993. Reynold and Jean moved to South Holland, IL in 2013. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Blackburn- Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL. Private graveside services for family will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the "Amana Church Society, PO Box 103, Middle, IA 52307".
