Rich Davito Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2024.
Dr. Richard G. Davito passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family in Brookfield Wisconsin on August 16, 2024, nine years after a lung cancer diagnosis. He was 75. He was preceded in death by his father Albert Davito and mother Marybelle Davito Jares (at the age of 103!) and brother Jerry Davito.

Rich was born in Spring Valley, Illinois. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1967 and Stanford University in 1971. In 1972, he married his high school sweetheart Cindy Britz Davito. He pursued his medical education at the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Rockford, Illinois. In 1980 he completed his residency in Orthopedics at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

He loved his orthopedic work and cared deeply for his patients. His father was a carpenter and Rich always said his orthopedic work was just another form of carpentry.

Rich will be remembered for his kindness and unwavering commitment to his family and patients. When not serving them, he was an avid fisherman, Packers fan, downhill skier, and longtime Corvette driver. He loved summers on Okauchee Lake.

Rich was a loving husband to Cindy and a devoted father to his son Brandon. His legacy lives on through his son and his daughter-in-law Cherie, as well as his two beloved grandchildren, Charlotte and Ross.

His loss is felt by many.

Rich and I met each other during my visit to Milwaukee County Hospital where I was interviewing for an orthopedic surgery residency. He was also an alumnus of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Rockford School of Medicine. We met in the orthopedic clinic while he was seeing patients. I truly believe Dr. Bruce Brewer, the Chief of the program, hired me because Rich was such an awesome resident. When I started my first rotation as a resident, Rich was my Chief Resident at Milwaukee Children´s Hospital. He kindly showed me the ropes. My wife, Nancy, and I enjoyed getting together socially with Rich and Cindy. Unfortunately, I don´t believe there was subsequent communication between us after Rich went into practice.
My memories are fond. He was funny, insightful, caring, and good to me. My condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.
