Richard Allred Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2019.
After many visits from beloved family and friends, Richard Gordon Allred passed away peacefully on March 22, 2019.

Richard was born December 10, 1939, in Washington D.C. One of his earliest memories was helping pull the dark shades down over the windows in his home whenever they heard the air raid sirens during World War II. Following the War, he moved to Pendleton, Oregon and then relocated to Bountiful, Utah during his junior year of high school. Richard stayed close to many of his friends in Oregon and Utah and considered himself fortunate to have two class reunions to attend.

Following graduation from Bountiful High School, Richard served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Western States Mission. Upon his return, he attended Brigham Young University, where he reignited his friendship with Mary Lee Klomp from LaGrande, Oregon. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple the following year.

A few years after graduating in Banking and Finance from BYU, Richard attended the International School of Law in San Diego, California. The law school years were busy and happy as Richard and his wife both pursued advanced degrees while caring for their small son. Eventually, the young family moved back to Utah and built a new home in the Bountiful foothills, where they raised their family for the next 37 years. During this time, Richard accepted employment in California and spent many weekends commuting back and forth. It was a tremendous sacrifice on his part as it allowed his family to remain with their cherished friends and neighbors on the Bountiful bench.

Richard enjoyed people, had a quick wit, and loved making others laugh. He was generous, often providing legal services free of charge to those who couldn't pay. He was fiercely patriotic, and enjoyed exploring the country and taking in the natural beauty of our National Parks. He loved cars, trucks, and anything mechanical. He had an innate understanding of how things worked and loved the challenge of fixing almost anything.

Richard's most memorable attribute was his unwavering love for his family. He took pride and great pleasure in their many accomplishments. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee, four children, Mark, Matthew, Michelle, and Michael, and five beautiful grandchildren, Oliver, Lydia, Keira, Spencer, and Angelie.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled this summer.

I loved and miss that dude. Being called a turkey by anyone else would be an insult. From Richard, it was high praise. If/when you ever do that Celebration of Life, I'll be there.

I remember meeting him for the first time. Mike and I had started dating only a few months before, and Richard came to Maui with his friend. I happened to be going to Maui for a jazz trip, and Richard came to multiple of our performances to see me play jazz piano. We both shared a love of jazz, and he showed me unconditional love and kindness from that day on. He even invited me and my friends over for steak and showers in between performances (since we were hot and hungry!!) He will be forever missed, but never forgotten. We all love and miss Paz.
