Dr. Guido Minaya
September 10, 2008
I was a high school friend of Rick’s and fellow soccer player. I am saddened by the news of his passing. Even in high school he was a remarkable young man. I remember him to be smart, at ease, funny, strong, kind and one of the best midfielders we had on the 1977 Canon McMillan High School Soccer Team. We were able have a very successful last season as seniors in large part due to Rick’s control of the mid field. My father, Ernesto Minaya, watched many of our games and was a fan of Rick’s soccer skills.
I lost touch with Rick after high school as my family and I moved quite a bit throughout my career. I hoped I would see Rick at one of our class reunions. I have a soccer ball signed by most of our 1977 team mates and was hoping to have Rick sign it as well.
I was happy to learn Rick earned an engineering degree and co-founded an engineering company in New Jersey. The career he chose seems so fitting to his personality and academic strengths. I am sure he was a true leader and top notch entrepreneur. I wish I would have been able to connect with him again.
My sincere condolences go out to his family and close friends. My thoughts and prayers are with Rick and his family.

I would like to extend my condolences from myself and my family for the loss of your husband and father. I played soccer with Rick in high school and as with males in their youth it seemed to be a time of invulnerability and fun with little thought of what the future held in store for us. I had not kept in touch with Rick, but I guess it was just assumed that we would see each other at a reunion or some other such function and tell lies about how good we were. I really don’t know why I am writing this, but I guess I just wanted to say I was sorry and that I liked Rick even though we hadn’t kept in touch. I wish your family well and hope that he was a good father and husband as I think he would have been.

It's been a while since I've worked with Rick, but he was always nice, funny and full of smiles, especially when he spoke of his family! I remember when he brought his youngest home. He was so thrilled about another little girl in his life.
My sympathies and prayers are with his family.

Condolences to all of Ricks family. Having worked with Rick for the last decade was the most interseting and pleasurable experience of my career. Every day I think of him and miss him terribly, but will always remember his kindness.

Rick was a great brother-in-law. We are so sad that we lost him. We're glad he's at peace and we will always have happy memories of him. His eyes were so bright and sparkled when he pulled one of his practical jokes or told a funny story. We really miss him.
