Richard Cagle Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2012.
Richard Gilbert "Bert" Cagle went home to be with his savior Jesus Christ on August 26, 2012. Bert was born March 29,1938. He met the love of his life at the University of Colorado and married the former Claire Dent on June 14, 1958. After graduating with an electrical engineering degree, Bert began working for Boeing's Aerospace division which took the happy couple all over the country. Bert began his rocket science career working on the Bomarc Missile in Seattle, Washington. While in Seattle, Bert and Claire had their son Cactus Jack Cagle which changed the beautiful couple to a family. Bert continued to work for Boeing when he began to follow the space program. His first stop was Huntsville, Alabama where their daughter Cathy was added to this happy family. The space program then took Bert and family to New Orleans for a short time before his work in Houston. While in Houston Bert worked on the Apollo space program and then on the space shuttle. Bert was in the front bunker for the liftoff of Apollo 11 & 15 and was part of the team that got our astronauts home safely in Apollo 13. After a life as a rocket scientist, Bert retired to the greater Rosanky, Texas area. In retirement, Bert took up the life of a cowboy by hunting deer and raising longhorn cattle. After the steers became too much of a blessing, he devoted even more time with his other loves. Throughout his life Bert enjoyed spending time with his family, building model rockets and fixing things around the house (in Bert's own way). Computers were a special passion of Bert's, as he even built his own computers well before the computer craze began. He had a prophet's eye to the impact that they were going to have on the world. Bert also enjoyed emailing everyone his jokes, musings, "true stories" and general wisdom on life. Moving to Rosanky resulted in Bert and Claire having to leave their beloved Freeway Baptist Church in Houston and joining Rosanky Baptist Church. Bert served God's Kingdom faithfully as a deacon, chair of the finance committee and joyful choir singer. Singing was a special love of Bert's, as he could be heard frequently singing and whistling of God's joy. The fact that Bert went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning just means that he was able to join the choir in heaven, as they were warming up for the day. Bert is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Claire, their son Commissioner Jack Cagle and his wife Janet, their daughter Cathy and her husband Dana Moore and as Bert would say, "five incredibly wonderful, super fantastic, bountifully sensational and all-around beautiful grandchildren": Richard Cagle, Drew Moore, Victoria Cagle, Daniel Moore, and Elizabeth Cagle. A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at Rosanky Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday night from 5 to 7 p.m. at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with interment to follow. Please send memorials to Rosanky Baptist Church Building Fund , P.O. Box 96 Rosanky, TX 78953.
