I met Richard when I was 15 and yearning for a career in hairdressing. He took me under his wing and I apprenticed with him for 3 years before moving to Toronto and New York. He was a sensitive , caring man with loads of creativity. Often he would drive me home , a kindness that was unfamiliar to me. I lost touch years ago and in the last 15 years saw his artwork at Maycourt Hospice while spending time with 2 of my friends in their final days of life. I had assumed he had passed because he was often sick and assumed the artwork had been donated in his will as a thank you. Possibly Maycourt was his home in his final days as well. I found out last night he had only passed in March this year. I am sorry to not have had the chance to say thank you and goodbye. Take care sweet soul, dear Richard.( nee Dottie Mullin)

Richard was my boss between the ages of 18 and 24. That was 30 years ago. He was much more than a boss though, he was my best friend and mentor. I loved him and miss him. I wish we'd never lost touch. RIP Richard.

I recall Richard vividly from Hillcrest High School. He was very bright and talented.
Had he been born a decade later, Richard would likely have been accorded a fuller measure of the respect and compassion that we all deserve.
