At the conclusion of his military service, He attended Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1963. He began working for the Defense Department upon graduation. He later earned a Master's Degree from Central Michigan State University and spent his career managing numerous Defense Contract Audit Agency Offices in Hawaii and on the East Coast.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his 7 grandchildren, on the beaches, parks, ballfields, and hiking trails in Southern California and New England. In his retirement years, the weather drew him to relocate permanently to Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, where he spent his days playing tennis, bike riding, hiking, attending sporting events, reading, traveling, and socializing with family and friends.

Dear Claire and Sue and family,
My heart goes out to you. I know how tough this must be for your family. Richard was a great guy. It was a pleasure it was to have met you both in Rhode Island and to have enjoyed our tennis matches together. He was always the gentleman.
Thank goodness for the support of family and friends and for the wonderful warm loving memories you have.
