RICK AT CHRISTMAS TIME
December 8, 2015
December 1, 2015
To my brother-in-law......Rick.....it's been just about a year now that you have left us. We still have so many unanswered questions that we will never know the answers to. We know you are in a better place now and have found peace with yourself as you could not find it in life. I will always remember you and the love you had for your BIG cat Spooky! You two were the best of friends! Just knowing that you are with your Dad, is very comforting. You truly will be missed at the family gatherings, but we know you will be looking down at us with your Dad.
Love Tracy. XXOO

I met rick in 1989 at the can factory we both were employed at. We shared many fun times, weight training, dining out, especially Greek cuisine, He lived at my house for the summer of 2006. I feel sadness that you exited far too soon ! I feel happiness to have shared so many good times. I feel honored to have had you as my friend ! Gone...but never forgotten,..RIP Bro.

Very difficult to accept losing Rick. He had so many great qualities. Generous, caring with a sense of humour among others. So many things he said and did will always put a smile on my face, but life will not be the same without him. Always in our hearts and never forgotten.

As a teenager, I remember coming out to your home in Vancouver. We shared some of the best, growing up memories that I could ever of had with you , Rick and your bro Randy. Rock music( Boston's debut Album ) Hanging out at Stanley Park, (Second Beach?) . We were all about 13 or 14 I think..All the girls, my first swim in an ocean, walking around a big city, going to some excellent party's..Ya, good times, never will be forgotten. As a kid from the farm, it all was a huge eye opener. Great fun, in the sun. Aunt Heidi and Uncle Phil, you made it lots of fun. Your cousin Forever bud.

My favourite memories of Rick are when we were kids playing at Grandma's house, we didn't have a care in the world back then. I loved the family reunions at Stanley Park and having the chance to see Rick and the rest of the family. Those picnics kept the family connected and memories I will always cherish.

Rick, one of the memories I have of you is on the day Neil Armstrong landed on the moon in the summer of 1969. We were only about 5 years old and I remember many of our cousins, including you, were all sitting on the floor at our grandparent's house watching the landing on a tiny black and white tv. It was probably one of the few times that we were all sitting still.
Great memories cannot be taken away. I hope family and friends find comfort in the wonderful memories that they have of you.

Although we never had the pleasure of meeting Rick, we know in our hearts that he must have been a wonderful caring person. We know that Rick would not have wanted to see his mother grieving as she is now.
I'm sure he is looking down and wanting the best for his mother.
These times are so tough because of the special bond between a mother and son. God bless you Rick, and you too Heidi

Dear Aunt Heidi and family,
Although we didn't see each other often, when we were children I remember Rick as being "one or the twins". The thought of four boy cousins could be daunting to a shy girl like me.
I know his loss is a terrible burden on your heart, but I hope some day you can be
happy again.

Dear Aunt Heidi and family,
They say 'time heals'... but the scar of a loss will always be with us. We hope that soon the wonderful happy memories will eclipse the sorrow and pain of your loss. I hope you each find comfort in knowing that God is with you during this journey. Jesus is your strength, shield, wisdom, defender, shepherd, protector, helper, friend, counsellor, guide, hope, and peace. He is near when you call on Him. Psalm 31:24 says "Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart all you who hope in the LORD."
2 Thessalonian 2:16, 17 says "May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word."
There is no burden beyond His strength, no boundaries to His love, no limit to His mercies, no problem outside His solution, no need beyond His care.
John 14 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." Rick has entered into his rest. Rest in peace, cousin.
May the Lord continue to comfort you in your loss.

My earliest memory of my Uncle Rick was him giving me a cap gun and a Frankenstein Toy. My most recent was us enjoying a few beers on my Dad's balcony. We discussed our favourite types of beer. Uncle Rick's was "something bitter and German - like a Beck's". I will forever love and miss my Uncle Rick. He was always such a caring family member. Rest in Peace.

So many great memories of growing up together. From East Georgia St. to Stirling St. in Vancouver. We laughed, we cried but what a time we had! You sang me songs to make me sleep when I was scared. You had my back when the local bully was after me. You were a real brother. I will never forget you. Love and miss you so much.

Cousin Rick, although we probably lived less than 100 km's apart most of our lives, I didn't know you. I wish I had. So very much.
I believe we had many things in common, but the most important is family. I wish I had taken any opportunity to know you better.

Heidi, Steve, John and Trevor Sooo sorry for your loss. You were a team together including your dad Phil. Soo hard when you lose one of your team members things just seem to fall apart. I do hope that you will all be able to understand and carry on and be a strong team together again as they would have wanted you to. Rick and your dad/Phil will be smiling down on you all and will want you to know they have a strong little team of their own. Live your lives to the fullest as they would have wanted you to. As you know life can slip away in a heart beat so make that time count. May you find strength in each other as you travel this heartbreaking path together.

I am so sorry for your loss. Rick was one in a million. A true original. I will miss him forever. His favorite qoute, and one I often asked him to repeat to me was this:

THE BROKEN CHAIN
We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
