Richard Hefner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 22 to Jun. 24, 2012.
Funeral services for Richard Andrew "Ricky) Hefner, 52, of Hudson will be held Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Doug Jones and Reverend Roy Carroway, Sr. officiating. Following the services, the celebration of Ricky’s life will continue at Behannon’s Warehouse, downtown at 205 North Fourth Street. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Ricky was born January 8, 1960 in Houston, Texas to Audrey (Cheatom) and Robby Hefner, Sr., and died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Rick resided in Hudson most of his life. He had been the Administrative Manager of the African Division of Noble Drilling for eight years. He was a member of the Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church. Our loss is Heaven’s gain. Our Ricky went to sleep in Nigeria and woke up in the arms of God. Oh, how we will miss him. He brought joy and laughter into every life he touched. If you knew him, you loved him, and he loved you. His Haley was the light of his life. He loved her so much. He loved his Mom and Dad, his brother, and his sisters with an everlasting love. 'Unca Icky' adored his nieces and nephews and loved doing things with them, especially riding roller coasters, shooting fireworks, and playing guitars. He loved to travel and went all over the world. He loved to hunt, fish play golf, and travel to Nascar races. He loved guns and guitars. He had a heart as big as Texas and giving was as natural to him as breathing. He gave to family, friends and strangers. Special friends who he loved like brothers were Joey Parker, Brandon Stephens, Wade Jabbour and Scotty Smith. Sayonara my Blue Bird Ricky, until we meet again. Survivors include his daughter, Haley Addison Hefner and fiancé Bryce Miller of Austin; parents, Audrey and Robby Hefner, Sr. of Wells; brother and sister-in-law, Robby, Jr. and Laurie Hefner of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rhonda and Tim Smith of Hudson and Regina and Jeff Nicks of San Antonio; nieces and nephews, Natalie Hefner, Tim Coy Smith and Trista, Hannah Smith, Jessi Smith, Wesley Bridwell and wife Krystal, and Rachel Nicks; aunt and uncle, Sue and Charles Giammalva of Houston; and cousins, Frances Willard, Vincent Giammalva, Charlie Giammalva, and their families. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jesse and Mildred Hefner, Minnie Cheatom and Vernon Cheatom. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be added at www.carrowayfuneralhome.com. Words seem so inadequate to express the sadness I feel since I learned about Rick's death. My heart is so heavy & full of pain over the death of the man that I will love until the day I die. Everyone that knew him loved him & I just can't believe that he is gone.

The meaning of "condolence" is to suffer together. Everyone that was fortunate enough to have had a relationship with Rick must feel the same, suffering. He was an amazing person with a talent of making people remember him.

I can't imagine how difficult this must be on the whole Hefner family. I will forever hold fond, fun memories of your whole family close to my heart. I pray that y'all will find peace in knowing what an amazing man he was & how many people loved Rick. He was an everlasting candle that lit up life where ever he was.

And to Haley, if my hug was strong enough to take your pain away, I would start hugging you now & I never stop.

Love is the basic need of human nature, without it, life is disrupted emotionally, mentally, spiritually & physically. I'm so thankful that I shared a loved with Rick.

Pam & Rick - I will love you till the day I die.

I was shocked and saddened by the passing of Rick. We were coworkers for many years and the two of us shared so many funny moments. He was truly loved at our Fedex station. He was part of our family. Priscilla Brown

To the Hefner Family-Ricky was a true treasure, one who had so many special gifts to share with all who knew him. If you knew Ricky, you loved him, you just couldn't help it, he had that special gift of love for everyone who really knew him. He will be deeply missed by everyone who was so fortunate and very blessed to have known him. God Bless your sweet heart Ricky Hefner!
