Richard Jaeckel Obituary

Richard Max Jaeckel was born June 27, 1918 near Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Carl Albert and Catherine Elizabeth (Kish) Jaeckel.
He passed away on Monday morning, Aug. 27, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak, Iowa.
Richard grew up in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri and graduated from Westboro High School in 1936.
In 1940, he was married to Mabel Lucille Fecher in Hamburg. To this union two children were born, Richard Jr. and Gary.
Mabel passed away in 1977. On Aug. 2, 1977, Richard was married to Dorothy J. Uhlig in Council Bluffs.
Richard was a self employed businessman. He owned and operated a mobile home park, a trucking company, a fertilizer plant and was a farmer.
He had been a pilot and enjoyed flying his plane.
He also enjoyed traveling, gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor, fishing and playing cards.
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Shenandoah and had been a Chapter Advisor for the FFA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mabel, in 1977; a brother, Paul Jaeckel and two sisters, Alma Boehne and Marie Jaeckel at birth.
Survivors include his children, Richard Jaeckel, Jr. of Omaha, Gary Jaeckel and his wife Gloria of Derby, Kan.; step-son, Calvin Uhlig and his wife Mary of Hawaii; seven grandchildren, Dr. Elise Allen and her husband Dr. David Allen of Omaha, Andrea Gumucio and her husband Greg of New York City, Christopher Jaeckel of Cleveland, Ohio, Marcia Batchelder and her husband Josh of Denver, Kristen Devlin and her husband Gregory of Upper Darby, Penn., David Uhlig and his wife Katie of Silvis, Ill., Marianne Muscatello and her husband TJ of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; eight great grandchildren, Reagan and John Allen, Gabriel Gumucio, Henry Batchelder, Leia Devlin, Benjamin Uhlig, Sonne and Lila Muscatello; daughter-in-law, Margaret Jaeckel of Council Bluffs; along with other relatives and friends.

It was sad to hear about Uncle Richard's death. He certainly had a full and prosperous life. I wish I had spent more time with him while he was here.
