Richard Langford Meinert of River Ridge, Louisiana died peacefully on November 23, 2022. Born on December 20, 1934, in El Dorado, Arkansas, Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen "Choo Choo" Meinert; his children, Debra Konopko (Kevin), Travis Meinert, Elizabeth Stewart (Mike), Mary Foles (Charles Edwards), and Margaret Cunningham (Mike); grandchildren Leah and Marion Frizzell, Andrew, Richard (Kaleigh), and Rachael Stewart, Peter and Lindsey Foles, and Carolyn and Blake Cunningham; and great-grandson, Oliver Stewart. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Meinert (Jeanne] and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Meinert, a sister, Marianne Mackey, and a brother, Michael Meinert. He attended Missouri Military Academy and graduated from the University of Notre Dame. He spent his career as a petroleum geologist with Gulf Oil and retired from Chevron. He was a founding parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church in River Ridge, and a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Award from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing, woodworking, and was a member of the New Orleans Model A Car Club. Visitation and a memorial Mass will be Monday, November 28 at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 10021 Jefferson Hwy., River Ridge, LA. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, with Mass at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name to the St. Matthew Endowment Fund and the Notre Dame Drumline - O'Brien Band Fund (giveto.nd.edu).
