Richard Rausch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2024.
Richard William Rausch, known most as "Dick Rausch" to his friends and former colleagues, passed away at the age of 93 on January 31, 2024, in Kremmling, Colorado. He was born July 23, 1930, in Kemmerer, Wyoming.

Dick was a devoted husband of 45 years and father to his three children and six grandchildren. After graduating with honors from Kemmerer High School in 1947, he spent a short time in the Korean War and then attended the University of Wyoming, graduating with honors in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After receiving an MBA from Northwestern University, he was heavily recruited by General Motors to build engines but decided last minute to accept a position with Pan American Petroleum Company (Amoco), eventually acquired by British Petroleum (BP). He was as loyal to Amoco as he was to his family, spending his entire career there before retiring after 35 years as the President of the production facility in Sharjah, UAE. He traveled many parts of the world negotiating and developing key partnerships with high-ranking governments and royalty in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. One of the family's most momentous adventures was time living in Tehran, Iran during an internal revolution that developed into a complete evacuation of his wife and sons along with all free-world nationalities never to return as of this day. He will be remembered for his giving heart, kind soul and always having a story he liked to tell with some sort of "witty" punch line. His biggest pleasure was retiring and traveling with his wife Shirley in their RV where he spent the majority of his time trout fishing while she would worry about the weather, read books, take the dog for a walk or anything really just to keep busy until Dick's return.

He is survived by his two sons Eric and Douglas Rausch, daughter-in-law's Cheryl and Marcella Rausch, granddaughter's Lauren Guice, Alexandria and Mikayla Lenahan, Abigail and Kylie Rausch and grandson Blake Rausch.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Shirley Ann Rausch, Daughter Janet Marie Lenahan, Father Rollyn Rausch, and Mother Marie Rausch.

According to his wishes, Dick will be cremated, and a private ceremony will be held with close family at Island Park, Wyoming, where his remains will be released into the very stream that was the final resting place for his beloved Wife and Daughter.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. Rest in peace, Dick Rausch, your legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.

So many memories, what I remember most is how he always made me feel special and he was so kind, always looking out for me. Not only family to me but a dear friend and I will honor and cherish our friendship always. Such a lover of pets, fishing and a good meal all of which we shared together over the years. Rest in peace dad, you´ll have a special place in my heart forever.
