AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Doctors Hospital. Mr. Richard Sutton, Jr., 75, husband of Mrs. Bertha Sutton. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 21, 2011 at 12:15 p.m. from The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, 811 Telfair Street, Augusta, GA 30901 with Father Michael J. Kavanaugh, Pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens. **The Holy rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. to 7 :00p.m. Richard was born in Augusta, GA on June 18, 1935. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of The Church of the Most Holy Trinity for over 35 years and also a member of The Knights of Columbus. Richard was an active alumnus of Lucy C. Laney High School, class of 1953; honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1958; a graduate of Paine College; and he earned his Master's Degree from Tuskegee Institute. His long career in education included Harlem High School; Aquinas High School; and T.W. Josey High School where he retired after 31 years of excellent service. Richard became a loyal member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Psi Omega Chapter on January 10, 1998. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Edwards; mother, Mamie Edwards Seabrook; one brother, Earl Edwards; and three sisters, Lizzie Mae Young, Francis Juanita Evans and Irene Edwards O'Bryant. He leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his going home: his wife of 47 years, Bertha F. Sutton; daughter, Kimberly T. Sutton; sons, Richard E. Sutton, Patrick B. Sutton and Pierre B. (Denise V.) Sutton; grandchildren, Keshia T. Coleman, Jessica V. Sutton, Joshua A. Sutton and Jared M. Sutton; sister-in-law, Mary F. (Sylvester) Brown; as well as many other loved family members and friends. **In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Immaculate Conception Academy, 811 Telfair Street, Augusta, GA 30901. Mr. Sutton was one of those teachers who you wanting to do better and be a better person. He even called me out when he knew I wasn't doing my best. I thank him for that moment and I am grateful for having him as a teacher at Josey. The values and things I learned from my teachers at Josey especially Mr. Sutton have made me a better person and teacher. Mr. Sutton's family please note that your husband, father, and grandfather made a difference in the eyes of children. I pray God's peace and grace around you during this time.
