I knew Rick when we were grad students in U Wisconsin back in 1965-1967. After awhile of that he felt he would rather do medicine. I could only agree as I saw a person who would work well with p pole n helping them solve medical problems. Sad he is no longer with us, but I’m sure he did a good job with patients and helped them to get better.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to leave a comment remembering my dad. His capacity for love was only eclipsed by his passion for knowledge and learning.
Not a day goes by that I don't think about him, and I know he touched a lot of other people's lives as well.
He will always be my father, my hero and my best friend.
I can only hope that I lead a life that he would be proud of, which is no easy task considering how intelligent, accomplished and caring he was.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who took the time to remember his passing. The world lost a great man when he died.
Love always,
His faithful daughter, Holly Swanson

Very sadly I have just found this out today. Rick and I had some great times together in the 70’s when we lived in Edmonton. We had a lot in common and our love of hunting cemented our friendship. I have so very many happy memories of our times together (and photos) . I am so upset in discovering that Rick has passed. My thoughts are with Barb and Holly.

Just learning of this today, Barb. Don't know if 2 year old sympathies mean much, but I think of you both often and my summer of BMW 500's thanks to you two.

It was a particular blessing to our family (as my sister wrote) that we were neighbours to the Swansons and patients of Dr Rick. He was the sort of physician that most people would truly hope to be able to have. He was honest, he truly cared about us all and gave us the time and honest talk that we needed. He also had a good sense of humour. He was very down-to-earth and practical. In addition to these and many more good qualities, such as hospitality, he was a good husband and father. May the Lord bless him now, and may the Lord bless and strengthen Barbara and Holly in their bereavement!

We are very sad to hear of our favourite Dr. Swanson's passing. We have remembered him fondly during Sunday family dinners. We recall his antics and his sense of humour during our visits. We remember him as a great humanitarian and compassionate and loving human being. We offer you,our deepest condolences, Barbara and Holly.

Having had the great privilege of being patients of Dr. Swanson for many years, my family can attest to the nurture and caring he offered each one of us and to the generous allotment of his time. Later, as the years passed, we would often remember him in conversations as being "one in a million". His passing brings us all a great sense of sadness and leaves the world a lesser place. Our heartfelt condolences to the family.

We will always love and remember Dr. Rick as neighbor, doctor, and friend. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Barb and Holly. Such great memories of the time you lived next door. He was one super special "renaissance" kinda guy. Talented and compassionate. Love - Jack & Dianne (Storheim) Hill

May the good Lord bless you in his care and bless your family during this their most difficult time.
Rick was a classmate of mine and I can recall the conversations we had about medicine, exams and life in general.

I'm saddened to hear of Richard's passing. I had the brief pleasure of working with Rick at the Edmonton General Hospital. He brought joy and laughter to his patients, as well as to the staff that worked along his side. Later, he embrassed my parents under his exceptional medical care. A few people can say they would look forward to their doctor appointments...but they did !
Rick has left us with many fond memories that still bring a smile to our lips!
