Richard S. Tyree, Sr., 80, went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2011. He was born on April 22, 1930 in Norfolk, VA the son of the late Harry and Mae Tyree. Richard served his country in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts retiring with 20 years of service. He continued his career as a tug boat captain with the Panama Canal Commission before retiring with 8 years of service.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 58 years, Martha Tyree of Virginia Beach; his children, Richard S. Tyree, Jr., and wife Khristie of Tarboro, NC, Phil Tyree of Norfolk, Timothy Tyree and wife Denise of Greensboro, NC, Jeffery Tyree of Phenix City, AL and Lisa Tyree of Virginia Beach; 5 grandchildren and his sister Wanda McMillan of Chesapeake, VA.

The family will receive friends in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home in Virginia Beach from 6:00 – 8:00 PM tonight January 9, 2011. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to Angel Flight, 4620 Haygood Road, Suite, 1, Virginia Beach, VA 23455 in Richard's name.

To the entire Tyree family,

I am very saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved father. It was a pleasure taking care of your loving father during the holiday season. He was a very kind soul. I enjoyed meeting each and every one of you when you visited him; I could tell he was very loved by all. My thoughts, prayers and well wishes are with each of you during this time.
