WALZ Mr. Richard J. "Dick" Walz, age 69 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, October 16, 2006, at his home. Dick was born November 24, 1936, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Milo H. Sr. and Esther Beck Walz, both deceased. He was married on November 28, 1963, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Geraldine "Gerry" Schmitz Bowman, who survives at the home. A life long resident of the Jefferson City area, Mr. Walz was a graduate of Jefferson City High School and the University of Missouri at Columbia. He was Vice-President of Milo H. Walz Home Furnishing Center and managed the appliance center. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church; a member and past president of the Jefferson City Jaycees and a member of the Southside Business League. Dick loved to bar-b-que for family, friends, charitable groups and enjoyed fishing. He was a loving, caring and giving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend. Other survivors include: two daughters, Janet Lynn Rush and her husband, Marty of Jefferson City, Mo. and Karen Brittain of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sons, Greg Bowman and his wife, Becky of Jefferson City, Mo. and Todd Walz and his wife, Lacey of Texas; two brothers: Don Walz and his wife, Norma of Jefferson City, Mo. and James Walz and his wife, Marinell of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Ruth Downey of Surprise, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Brad Bowman, Bryan Bowman, Alex Brittain, Nicole Brittain, Shelby Vessell, Kayla Vessell, Katelyn Rush, Justin Walz, and Tanner Walz. He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Walz, and three brothers, Milo H. Walz Jr., Herbert Walz, and Robert Walz. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2006, in the Freeman Chapel. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri or the American Cancer Society. My deepest sympathies to Aunt Gerry and to Todd, Karen, Janet, and Greg. I will miss a great Uncle and Godfather and have very fond memories, especially being the master of the grill during pool gatherings at Uncle Bob's.

My profound sympathy to all of Dick's family. I knew Dick since we were at Simonsen High School in the early 1950's. I was saddened to learn of his passing. The world is a bit poorer place for Sam Beavers today
