WILLIAMS - Richard ''Rick'' Smith, 62, of Brewster, MA, and formerly of New Jersey, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006, in Liberty Commons Nursing Home, Chatham, MA. He was the husband of Rosemary (Riordan) Williams. Mr. Williams lived most of his life in New Jersey, moving to Cape Cod and living in Brewster for the past six years. He was born on June 30, 1944 in New York City, NY. He was the son of the late Molly (Smith) and Bernard Williams. He graduated from Dumont High School in Dumont, NJ, in 1962 and later graduated from the Montclair State College, Montclair, NJ, in 1967. Mr. Williams was a physical education teacher for 34 years in Boonton, NJ. He retired in 2001, moving to Cape Cod, MA, where he became a volunteer at Chatham Middle School, Chatham, MA. Mr. Williams received the New Jersey Governors' Teacher Award and was inducted into the Dumont High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. Mr. Williams loved his family and friends and helped everyone who needed it through his kindness and generous giving of time, and his talent building or fixing just about anything. He was our own ''Mac Gyver''. He loved sports and being active. Rick's sense of humor was well known and his ability to make people laugh and be comfortable was unparalleled. Besides his wife, he leaves one daughter, Christina Williams of Dumont, NJ; one brother, Ronald Williams of Dumont, NJ; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Gail Williams of Dumont, NJ; two brothers-in-law, John Riordan of Long Island, NY, and Henry Riordan of River Zale, NJ; many nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2006, in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA, from 1-3 p.m., followed by a Service of Rememberance at 3 p.m. A memorial gathering will be held in New Jersey at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made in his memory to the Rick Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund, given to a graduating senior from Boonton High School, 434 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005, or to the Pan Mass Challenge for Cancer Research, c/o Glenn McVickar, 5 Meredith Way, Harwich, MA 02645.
