Richard Wyman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2024.
It is with a light heart and a chuckle befitting the man himself that we announce the 'final tour' of Richard H. Wyman. A proud Navy man, Richard set sail on life's last great adventure on October 5, 2024, in Milo, Maine. Born in Dexter, Maine, on March 24, 1947, he welded together a legacy of love, laughter, and a fair bit of mischief over 77 years.

After bravely serving two tours in Vietnam, Richard swapped the high seas for the high beams, becoming a radiant star in the welding world of the railroad. When not splicing metals, he traded in his torch for the open road as a long-haul truck driver, proving that life is indeed about the journey, not the destination.

Richard was a masterful chess player, with a strategic mind and a knack for putting life's pawns in their place. His love for golf swung him onto the green pastures of friendly competition, while Harley Davidson motorcycles revved up his heart and soul, burning rubber and rocking through life's highways and byways.

Leaving behind a legacy richer than the gold at the end of a rainbow, Richard's humorous spirit lives on through his children-the ever-so-humble Lori with her husband Joseph, the industrious Richard Jr. with Jessica, the sprightly Misty with Howard, and the steadfast Scott with Tammy. Descendants include a jovial jamboree of twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. His sister Barbara and brothers Norman (with Marsha), Melvin (with Cathy), and Roger (with Judy) also carry forward his penchant for spirited banter. His lifelong friend Rod Gudroe, special companion Jody Wyman, and Maggie-canine confidante and tail-wagging partner in hijinks-will have stories to tell for years to come. Preceded in death, and now sharing the ultimate secret handshake, are his parents Lester and Mildred, brothers Mark and David, and sisters Judy and Geraldine.

The grand finale-a graveside service-will be held on October 20th, at 2 pm at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, followed by a gathering of gaiety at The Dexter Fire Department. In lieu of flowers and with the irony that his life was so fluid, donations may be directed to the American Red Cross, an organization close to his once-ticking heart.

So, let's raise a glass, share a laugh, and rev our engines one last time for Richard H. Wyman, a man who welded joy into every encounter and left the world a little brighter-and definitely more amusing-than he found it.

When I was real young I remember watching Richard when he was in HS and wrestled at the old Middle School. He was bigger than life to me and I knew he was tough looking. His brother Mark used to talk about Richard all the time. When I got older I got to be friends with him and Holly. He used to come to all our band gigs and was our "bouncer",along with Smitty. We also played softball together and that where we gave him the name "Ripper", because he swung the bat and hit the ball so hard.We later named our band after him.We had some great times. You will be missed brother and never forgotten.

His kindness. As a young child, I was scared of the bull in Dad´s pasture. The Wyman family and McKenney family were playing hide and seek. I didn´t realize the bull was out and went to hide in an apple tree in the pasture. The bull came over the tree I was in and I was terrified. I was 6 or 7. Richard came in the pasture and rescued me. That memory has always stayed with me. He was a wonderful man.

He had a special connection with my mini yorkie Dextah, who inspired him to get Maggie. He even took him on a doggie date one day to meet her. He was the kindest heart, always helping so many and a true treasure to just chat with. I was lucky enough to call him my true friend and will miss him. He definitely made my world better and brighter

Richard was a caring, giving soul. He put a big smile on my face when he so generously painted my patio without my knowledge. What a wonderful surprise! He will be remembered fondly for his caring heart. Rest in peace Richard.
