Dr. Rida Naguib Azer
I am saddened to announce the death of my father Dr. Rida Naguib Azer, loving father, grandfather and husband. Born in Egypt on July 31, 1937, he was the eldest son of the late Dr. Naguib and Waguida Azer. Rida attended Victoria College in Cairo and completed his medical education at Cairo University and his orthopaedic training in England where he met his wife of 50 years, Valerie. Upon immigration to the United States, Rida served in the United States Army after which he moved to the Washington, DC area. He practiced orthopaedic surgery continually for the past 46 years, and was treating patients until hours before his death. Dr Azer served as chief of orthopaedics at several area hospitals and had an active practice, impacting countless beloved people. He was an avid student of the Bible, believer in Jesus Christ and greatly cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Valerie, son, Nigel, daughter-in-law, Beth and his five precious grandchildren, Pearl, Faith, Jesse, Enoch and Moses, his brother, Samir and sister-in-law, Violet and their children, Vivien and Adrian and their families. A viewing will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, on Friday, December 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. and services will be held at St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church, 11911 Braddock Road, on Saturday, December 9 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please contribute on his behalf, directed to Egypt at www.opendoorsusa.org for persecuted Christians.

Dr. Azer installed an artificial knee joint into my left knee around 1975.
Today, the year 2021, this very long and heavy metallic device is still working, only needing surgical work about 8 years ago. Dr Azer did a wonderful surgical job on me.
No more awful knee pains!!

To the family of Dr Rida Azer.
Words fail me.
I worked for this great physician for 4 years, in the late 70's early 80's.
Dr Azer was a generous, brilliant and thoughtful man. Over the years after I left this practice to get married and raise a family, I thought of Dr Azer so often.
He really gave me such a firm foundation to grow from, just the few years I worked with him. Numerous thoughts and memories of such a stellar person. I will always remember him with the highest, most outstanding regard.

He had the best life, and left behind a many faceted legacy. Dear family, especially Valerie, and Nigel. You may not remember me, it has been so long. I just discovered this devastating news, doing a random search on the nets. My heart is crushed. I am literally torn with sadness.
Over the years, we spend a lot of time loving the living among us, and part of our life is also grieving the loss of those we loved.

Rida Azer. M.D. was a very special and unique Human Being and Orthopaedic Surgeon Extraordinaire! I knew him for over 30 years and always had a very warm and special place in my heart for him!! He was really "One, the Likes of Whom, We May Never See Again"!! He always remained fearlessly strong, caring and loving as he greatly and favorably affected the lives of thousands of patients and the very many colleagues, employees, friends and neighbors, who were Blessed to know him! I take comfort in knowing that, by the Grace of GOD, he was able to be of service and to help so many people in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia for decades and that in life he was "Richly Blessed and Highly Favored" by GOD and "Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"! Therefore I am certain GOD has made a "Special Place" for him among HIS gathering of, still imperfect, but "Well Done, Good and Faithful Servants!!

My heart is so broken right now. I was Dr Azer's longest patient. My late Grand Mother Vernell Drummond worked for the Azer family and he performed my 2nd hip surgery at age 13 and I am now 51 years old. I would visit him once ever 1 to 2 years for check ups. I just learned moments ago and I am sitting her in tears. I would be wheel chair bound had he not been my physican. The Azer family my condolences. RIP Sir! Wendy Jackson Granddaughter of Vernell Drummond.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Dr Azer. I was referred to Dr Azer in 1998 and he treated and did surgery for my bilateral Carpel Tunnel, bilateral Trigger Finger and last August he did the surgery for my torn tendons in the ankle. Dr. Azer was very close to a friend of mine, and he had an impact on others too. Dr. Azer was the most kindest person. Most of all, he cared about his patients. Dr. Azer, you will be truly missed by all. Rest In Peace, Dr. Azer.

I have known Rida for for over 40 years when my late first husband Dr. Hampton Jackson worked with him. He was also generous to us in finding a house for us in Alexandria when they first practiced together. I am sorry I missed the service.
Dr. Azer's surgical abilities were of great caliber and he treated and healed thousands of patients.
Valerie, my family was saddened to hear of his untimely death and know it is a tremendous loss to all of the family and his patients.
May the Lord lift all of you up during this difficult time as you mourn your loss and may you be comforted by many remembrances of him over the years.
May you have the peace of the Lord which surpasses all understanding.
