Rinford Pritchard Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Feb. 17, 2018.
Dr Rinford (Bud) Pritchard

March 3rd 1930 to Feb 9th 2018

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Buddy Pritchard.

Buddy was proud to have walked through life alongside Muriel (nee Bryce), his sweetheart of 65 years. He spoke with great joy about their life together with their two daughters Nancy (Gary) and Alison (Doug), 5 grandchildren Cam (Libby), Al (Britt), Bryce (Kenrae), Fiona (Symon), Adam (Alicia) and 2 great grandchildren Althea and Joshua. He is survived by his two loving sisters, Barbara (Noel) and Donna.

Being a physician was a lifelong passion for Buddy. After graduation from UBC medical school in 1956, he began a long career in the Air Force that was something like an episode of MASH meets Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Even though he was the first physician qualified as a Nuclear Medicine specialist in the Canadian Air Force during the Cold War, he rarely took himself too seriously. With his outlandish sense of humour, Buddy would salute with wiggling fingers, and once, while visiting an American nuclear submarine, he pirouetted and fell into the harbour.

With a strong devotion to family and many enduring friends, his influence spans generations; he encouraged everyone to treasure their loved ones, embrace their inner child, and to swim anytime, any place.

We can only hope to live as Buddy lived-Live everyday as though it was the best day you've known, and don't forget to bring your bathing suit!

We love you forever,

Your loving family and friends.

All who knew him are welcome to celebrate his life on Saturday March 3rd 2018, at Tsawwassen United Church at 2pm. Bring your best Buddy story to share.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made with thanks to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or the B.C. Lung Association.

I worked with Bud in the 1980s and 90s at Veterans Affairs, where he was very well liked by veterans, staff, and other physicians.

A truly charming man, always helpful and in a good mood.

Bud was a sincere friend since we met at UBC Medical School in 1952. He was a caring, compassionate doctor. He was always earnest to help with his knowledge and skills.

Quirky doesn't even begin to describe Mr. Pritchard, but it's a good start. He was one of a kind and full of mischief: no one who met him could easily forget him. Many thanks to a man who brought silliness to a world that can always use more silliness and more souls like Mr. P. In loving remembrance, Jean Reddington (Steve Brazeau).

It was always a pleasure chatting with Dr.Bud Pritchard when he worked at Shaughnessy Hospital Pensions Dept., back in the 1980's. Those were happy days. He will never be forgotten by those Veterans, whose lives he touched. God bless you "Dr.Bud" on your final journey to Paradise.
