Robert Aube Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 13, 2014.

Dr. Robert W. Aube, Jr., 48, beloved husband for nineteen years of Elizabeth Woram Aube, joined the angels in heaven on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital, after a valiant three year battle with Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma. Bob was born in Hartford on April 27, 1966 to Robert W. Aube, Sr. and the late Linda Gentile Aube. He attended Rocky Hill Public Schools, and was a 1984 graduate of Xavier High School. He majored in physics and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston College in 1988. He attended New England College of Optometry and returned to Rocky Hill to practice in 1992. Bob was very active in the Connecticut Optometric Association and was nominated "Young Optometrist of the Year" in 2000. More recently, he was one of the first optometrists to become board certified in the state of Connecticut. His practice, Visual Perceptions, was voted Best Eyecare of Rocky Hill several years in a row. Bob loved his profession, his patients, and his Visual Perceptions family. Family was paramount to Bob. Besides his wife, he leaves four adoring children who considered him their hero: Jack Christopher (16), Brendan Michael (14), Lillian Teresa (11) and William Henry (8). His four cats, Mr. Beardsley, Smudge, Puss and Boots will also be lost without Bob. He leaves his loving sister, Brenda Ryan, her husband Doug, and their children, T.J., Luke, Connor and Kelly, of Glastonbury. He also leaves his devoted in-laws, Charles and Kathleen Woram of Rockville Centre, New York, five brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, and twelve nieces and nephews, also of New York. Bob was a die-hard Red Sox and fan and it was always a great day when the Red Sox won and the Yankees lost. He was a Boston College football season ticket holder for twenty-five years and hated to miss a game. He was the Commissioner of the Gus Peterson Fantasy Football league and enjoyed fantasy baseball as well. He was a board member of the Rocky Hill Soccer Club, and member of the Rocky Hill/Wethersfield Elks BPOE 2308. Bob didn't waste a moment¿he was a cub-scout leader, and coached softball, basketball and soccer as his children were growing. Bob was truly an example of BC's motto, "Ever to Excel." He was exceptional at everything he set out to do. Whether it was coaching his beloved Strikers, cooking chilis for his annual Christmas party, providing care to his patients, or planning trips for his Visual Perceptions staff, he did it with zest. He was the best husband, father, son, brother, uncle, eye doctor and friend. He appreciated every day and lived it to its fullest. He said he loved life and was good at living it! The family would like to thank the Rocky Hill community and especially our Striker family for the outpouring of support we have received during this difficult time. We are grateful to Will Kovacs, Bob's best friend for more than thirty years for the support and company he provided while Bob was in the hospital. We would like to also thank Santa's elves, who made this past Christmas a bit brighter with their daily gift delivery. We are appreciative of the care Bob has received at St. Francis over the past two and a half years from Dr. Sporn, his oncology nurse Michelle, Dr. Ray, all the nurses on 8-1, and especially LeeAnn in his final days. We would also like to thank Dr. Ruan, Dr. Elfiky and Dr. Vadiya at Dana Farber for giving us an extra year of hope when no one else could. The family will receive friends at D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield on Thursday, May 15, from 3-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bob's life will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 16, at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Aube Children's Fund," care of Webster Bank, 377 Cromwell Avenue, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. I was so sorry to hear that Booby has passed away. I remember him when he was attending NECO and working at Eye World store #5. He was a lot of fun when we were making glasses in the back. You will be missed my friend. I will certainly miss you at the trade shows and my occasional stops at your practice.

Dr. Aube coached our son Parker's team. Our family remembers him as an awesome coach, wonderful father and good friend. Although our interaction with him was short, he left a wonderful and lasting impression. He was a true gentleman and it was our privilege to know him. His passing is a great loss to us all. With our deepest sympathy and condolences. May God watch over you during this time of sorrow.

I am the daughter of one of Dr. Aube's fathers, childhood and young adulthood friends. My dad was Jimmy Quinn. I became Bob's patient in the early days of Visual Perceptions while we were both members of BNI, meeting at the New York Pickle Deli. Bob really impressed me from the beginning as a business man and an eye doctor. In the early days of his business (and mine), I remember helping him with his original PCs and network. His business quickly outgrew my ability to help him.

Bob and I always had great conversations during my annual eye exams. We both loved talking about our families, Star Trek, business, and many other things.

We are all blessed to have had such a good person in our lives even for such a short time.

Dear (Bobby), Liz and family, Uncle Bob and friend, Brenda, Doug and family, immediate extended family and friends: Words cannot describe the hurt and pain you must all be going through. Bobby was a one of a kind type of person, always a smile and a joke and loved by all who knew him. The fact that he named his first born son, Jack, after my dad who passed away in 2002, meant so very much to us as a family. Bobby was one in a million. He will be truly missed. I'm sorry we (my mom, Judy and I) were not able to see him on his last days but I do trust that he knew we had gone to see him. Many prayers, peace and love to you, Liz, your family, Uncle Bob and friend, Brenda, Doug and your family. Rest assured that you were a very close family and were able to spend so much quality time together. My utmost thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I am so very sorry for your loss, but know Bobby is pain free and living it up in Heaven with his mom and maybe even my dad. I'm sure they will entertain each other up there. Peace and love to all of you... We love you and will miss you Bobby. Love always, Diane, Anthony, Aunt Marion, Jim and Odette... Rest well Dear Bobby..????
