MARIETTA, Ga. — Robert G. Casazza, 99, a former longtime resident of Hampton, N.H., died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at the Metropolitan Hospice House in Marietta.
He was born in Merrimac, May 28, 1910, the son of the late William C. and Mary E. (Greeley) Casazza, and graduated from the former Merrimac High School and MacIntosh Business School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Aviation Storekeeper for three years, followed by another eight years in the active Naval Reserves.
Mr. Casazza retired from the Veterans Administration with 34 years of service, 18 years as hospital administrator and the balance of years as supply officer. He served as a hospital administrator in Veterans Administration hospitals in Boston, South Dakota, Fresno, Calif., Brecksville, Ohio, Brockton, Mass., Tuscon, Ariz. and West Haven, Conn.
After his retirement he worked as the executive assistant to the selectmen in the town of Plaistow. He served two terms on the Hampton Budget Committee. He was a former communicant, Eucharistic minister and former chairman of the parish council and budget committee of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton. He was also active in the Cursillo movement a marriage encounter group and Christian family movement with the church. He was also a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators and involved with various Bridge groups.
He was married for 68 years to the late Grace E. (Clough) Casazza who predeceased him in 1998. Family members include one daughter, Mary Ellen Kelly and her husband Kevin of Marietta, Ga.; one brother, John B. Casazza of Newbury; and two grandchildren, Maggie and Shane.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, with military honors to follow. Friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac. If desired, donations maybe made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
