GREENSBORO — Dr. Robert Hugh Foreman joined his heavenly Father on May 22, 2012 after his three and a half year battle with a cancerous brain tumor. He was surrounded by his family and friends and was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, and family physician.
"Dr. Bob" Foreman was born in Rochester NY on July 16, 1943 to Hugh and Dorothy Foreman. He grew up in Hilton, NY, graduated from Cornell University, and the University of Cincinnati Medical School. He completed his Family Practice residency in York, PA and served as chief resident.
Between college and medical school, Bob served in the US Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Bronze star and Commendation medal for his meritorious achievement and service.
In 1976, Bob moved to Greensboro, NC with his close friends and colleagues Dr. Joel Heller, Dr. David Kaplan, and Dr. Robert Thacker. Together they founded Guilford College Family Practice where he worked for 32 years and was well loved by patients and staff for his kindness, compassion, and humility.
Bob devoted his life to Christ, his family, and the care of his patients and the medical community. He was very active at Westover Church and served as an elder, deacon, and chair of multiple committees. He was also a board member of Moses Cone Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital and the Cone Foundation.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jan; son, Drs. Brett and Kim Foreman, of Raleigh, NC; son, Daniel Foreman and Rebecca Cote of Dallas, TX; daughter, Betsy Foreman of Wilmington, NC; and three granddaughters, Abby, Riley, and Avery. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Kopp, and husband Bill, of Surprise AZ; brother, Dick Foreman, and wife Kate, of Tempe, AZ; and brother-in-law, Arthur DiMartino, and wife Susan, of Weston, MA. Bob is predeceased by his parents.
The family is especially grateful for the extraordinary care, friendship, and devotion extended by Dr. Joel Heller, Dr. Robin Thacker and Dr. Deb McQuilkin as they literally walked by our sides through every step of Bob's illness.
There will be a celebration service of his life at Westover church on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 2 p.m.
The family will receive guests in the lobby area immediately following the service.

Please accept my sincerest condolences. Although Dr. Heller was my primary doctor, I also saw Dr. Foreman on several occasions during my 30 years as a patient. He and Dr. Heller and Dr. Thacker were three excellent doctors and gentlemen. May God bless and keep you and your family, and remember that your loss is heaven's gain.

With sincere condolences to the entire Foreman Family, we are very sorry to hear about Dr Foreman's passing at such a young age. I first started seeing Dr Foreman in the 70's. When Dr Roy Smith, my pediatrician, retired, my mother took me to Dr Foreman. Mom and I were very fond of Dr Foreman as he is a kind and caring doctor as we saw him for numerous years until his retirement. Dr Foreman was a great doctor who offered remedies over prescriptions. I also remember realizing I attended Grimsley with Brett and confirming Brett was his his son. Dr Foreman will not be forgotten. ~Jean Bundy and Sherry Bundy Royal

To the family of Dr. Bob Foreman. Please accept our deepest sympathy for your tremendous loss. I had the privilege of teaching one of his wonderful children, Dr. Brett, years ago at Grimsley High School. What I didn't know then was that the apple did not fall far from that tree. May his memory be eternal in your hearts. He left quite a legacy with his family, his patients and his friends.
Most Sincerely,
Hedy and Jim Thevaos

Dr. Foreman was my first doctor in 1976. He continued to be my doctor as well as my step mother, and husband's for many years. I've compared all others to Dr. Foreman from then on. He always took time to listen and explain anything that I asked, and even visited me in the hospital during a stay. He was great! Rest in peace, Dr. Foreman. And may his family and friends find peace and strenght during these difficult times.
