Robert Francis Freitag

Robert Francis Freitag, 78, of Newington, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Woodside) Freitag for 46 years. Born and raised in New Haven, son of the late Francis and Kathleen (Prior) Freitag Tempelhof, he lived in Newington for 47 years and retired from Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford after 39 years of service. After his retirement, Robert was a member of the Pratt and Whitney Retiree's Club, was employed at Belcan and volunteered at the Newington Senior Center assisting with tax preparation. He also enjoyed traveling the world and cruising with his loving wife. Above all, he loved spending time with his adored grandchildren. Along with his wife, he leaves his four children, Roberta Eley of Warwick, RI, Debra Hayward of Virginia Beach, Robert Freitag and his wife Lynsi of Phoenix, AZ, and Kathleen Clarke and her husband Michael of Wethersfield, his nine grandchildren, Andrew Eley, Robert Eley and his wife Malia, Jessica and Cody Hayward, Tessa and Quinn Freitag, and Owen, Jack and Lily Clarke. He also leaves his sister Barbara Mooney and her husband Thomas of New Haven, his two cousins, Richard Reutenauer and his wife Jan, and Dolores Johnson and her husband Robert, his mother-in-law Anne Woodside of Weston, MA, and extended members of the Woodside family. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, October 28th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington.
