Robert Fry Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post from Mar. 12 to Mar. 13, 2013.
Fry, Robert "Bob" John
How can anyone express the profound loss that is ours when Bob left us? Born in Regina June 20, 1953 to Thelma and John Fry, Bob died of cancer at the age of 59 years on Monday, March 11, 2013. He was predeceased by his son James, mother Thelma and sister Kathy. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years Joanne (Reitmeier); daughter Jody Reitmeier (Craig Brown) along with his first grandchild Lincoln John; son Jesse Fry (Mae); and daughter Jennifer. He also leaves to mourn his father John and stepmother Barb; sisters Sandy (Wayne) Isted and Shelley Moffatt along with his nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and several hundred brothers and sisters of the Regina Fire Department, and a huge list of friends. Bob was born and raised in Regina. He became a firefighter for the City of Regina in 1977 and retired five years ago from the department after 32 years of service. He was a wonderful father to his children and he was a great friend. Bob loved to draw. He could pick up a pen and before you knew it there was a flawless picture of a car or plane or whatever he felt like drawing at the time. He was fun to be with and loved to laugh. He lived by the motto "be good to each other." He was looking forward to walking his grandson around the museum. It was not to be. His grandson will only know his grandpa through pictures, videos and stories told by those who loved Bob. We all share our special moments about Bob. Whether it be a moment of kindness he showed us, the help he gave us or a kind word he spoke to us that somehow made our lives a bit better. Bob leaves behind a wealth of happiness and good memories for all of us to share. So share your stories of Bob. Have a laugh about a good time you shared with him. He had no regrets. He was proud to call the men and women of the Regina Fire Department his brothers and sisters. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina. We would like to thank the doctors and staff of 3B and 3A at the Pasqua Hospital who took such excellent care of Bob. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

When we were at Albert School it was great to have Bob as a friend. He was a lot of fun. He was also the kind of guy who always kept his word. From an early age he sure could draw.
My deepest sympathy to his family.

Johnny, Sam, Shelly & Families
I am so sorry for your loss and disappointed that I couldn't get to attend today's funeral. You are all in my thoughts & prayers as you grieve the loss of Bob.
I will always remember him as Kathy's older brother and scooting us girls out of his bedroom so as to not touch his model cars, etc. that he was working on... Please take good care!

Dear Joanne, Jody, Craig & Lincoln....and the Fry family....so sad to hear of Bob's passing over ....and so glad I was afforded an opportunity to see him once more last fall---who knew it would be the last...the Bob I know was a gentle soul, with a ready laugh and always putting others before himself.....sometimes, he had a certain melancholy about himself....which translated into a great compassion towards his friends and family..He could be strong if that was needed...I know Jody and him did a dance of wills when she was young, and to her advantage Bob held his ground....Now that Jody is an adult with a boy of her own, I am sure she can appreciate why Bob pushed her to do her very best (secretly he had Jo's blessing )...and probably a good part of the reason she has turned into a beautiful, responsible, adult....Bob was a fireman, a brave profession in my estimation...but I am sure that the most difficult part of the profession is the in between parts....being in close proximity without getting on each others last nerve.....I'm guessing Bob was probably really good at that..he loved to joke and talk...always saw the good in people...but, he also knew when to be quiet...a quality that cannot be underestimated for its social value...he loved to laugh also, and to make others laugh...so here's one you can tell in the spirit world Bob where I'm sure us earthbound souls are already fodder for plenty of comedy...."A tabloid newspaper carried the story, stating simply that a small-town emergency squad was summoned to a house where smoke was pouring from an upstairs window...the crew broke in and found a man in a smouldering bed. After the man was rescued and the mattress doused, the obvious question was asked: "How did this happen?"...."I don't know. It was on fire when I lay down on it.""...true story--.taken from a book of the same name by Robert Fulghum........rest in peace dear Bob...we will miss your smiling face...so sorry for your loss ...especially Joanne & Jody....we are so looking forward to your visit....condolences also to Jess and Jen....love Brenda

To Aunt Joanne, Jody, and Lincoln,

My prayers and condolences are with you throughout this difficult time.

Ever since I was a child, Alicia, my dad and I would spend the odd spell in summertime in Regina visiting my grandma. Aunt Joanne and Uncle Bob lived next door. Us girls would drop by at Aunt Joanne's house for a snack and a visit. Uncle Bob always complimented and made us feel welcome. We would sit out on the patio and keep each other entertained with a good conversation and his jokes.
I greatly admire Uncle Bob for his generosity and keen sense of humour which I will never forget.
I will always love him and miss him dearly.
So sorry for your loss.

Love always,
Miriah

Dear Auntie Joanne and Jody,

Miriah, Dad, and I would come to Regina to visit Grandma and Grandpa and you and Uncle Bob. I remember the times that Uncle Bob would make us breakfast consisting of the aroma of scrambled eggs, and toast. He enjoyed talking with us and I remember when he would take us to Tim Hortons so that we would be able to get a doughnut. Really special times going to Tim Hortons. He had the ability to make people laugh and I shared many a good giggle with him. I miss you Uncle Bob. Much love to the family. My deepest condolences to Auntie Joanne and Jody. I wish I could be there to give you all a hug. I am in the middle of exams. Love, Alicia

I first met Bob in 1982 when I was transferred to #6 station as a junior firefighter.Even though Bob called me a silver-spooned south ender, all in good humour, he was so kind and helpful to me I wondered for months what he was up to. Well, he was up to nothing and a great friendship developed. Bob was a very kind man with a huge heart! Rest in peace Brother Bob!
