Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Fulton
BELLVILLE: Robert L. "Bob" Fulton, 71, and lifelong Bellville resident, passed away Wednesday evening, February 7, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Tough and determined, Bob lived courageously the past five years with stage four renal cancer.
The son of Robert J. and Evelyn (Bricker) Fulton, Bob was born May 6, 1946 in Mansfield. In 1964 he was in the first graduating class of Clear Fork High School. Bob continued his education at Akron University earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education. For 35 years, Bob taught in the Mansfield City School District. Most of his career Bob taught middle school American History.
He enjoyed country life. Every year Bob planted his vegetable garden and each new year it seemed to get larger in size. He collected antiques. In the summer months he'd take his family camping. Bob never met a stranger and could strike a conversation with just about anyone.
He will be remembered for his kindness and hearty laughter.
He is survived by his loving wife Julie (Gatton) Fulton of Bellville; two children and their spouses Andy and Tracy Fulton and Jamie and Philip Skaggs all of Bellville; four grandchildren Alex Fulton, Austin Kurtz, Nicholas and Lacey Skaggs; a sister Joan Eyster of Bellville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mark and Lois Gatton of Bellville; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Roma Gatton of Belliville; as well as nephews.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a niece and nephew Jana Eyster and John Deucore.
A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1-4 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions to the Richland County Humane Society may be made through the funeral home.

Today I receive the most sad news i ever experienced on a birthday. I received a birthday card from a former teacher, informing me of Mr. Fulton passing. Mr. Fulton was my favorite teacher. I believe he liked me as a student but I think he loved my sense of humor. When he would teach he would tell "corny" jokes. You
could hear crickets...until I busted out laughing. I found mr Fulton hilarious. I didn't like history but he engaged me with his humor. With tears in my eyes, my heart goes out to all of his family. He wasn't just a great educator he was a great man! my prayers are with you all.

JULIE AND FAMILY,
Our thoughts and prayers with you at this difficult time. Bob always had a hello and smile when you passed by or talked with him in town. He fought his illness hard and is now at peace. He will be missed.

I remember Bob as a great educator. I was struggling in 8th grade, especially in History. Instead of letting me slip through the cracks, he encouraged me, and helped me understand the subject matter, and how important education was. I went on to do well, and through the years, I would think about his class, and the encouragement he gave me. Many prayers to his family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Fulton's family. He was a great man.
I had Mr. Fulton when he was still at Prospect. He was one of my all time favorite teachers. He stood up for me one day when some kids were really picking on me and I never forgot that. He was so very kind to all children. I learned to love reading while in his class and it has served me well in my lifetime. I can only imagine the countless young lives that he has inspired and changed through his years of teaching.

Awesome man and great role model. Robert Fulton was my middle school history teacher and he will not be forgotten. he was one of the few teachers i always felt comfortable being honest with, he never passed judgment and always gave me sound advice with my troubles... R.i.P.

Julie we are so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We certainly have not known you two for very long but feel we have known you forever. I will always remember the 1st time I met Bob in Columbus at Rickenbacher and he offered me a donut (which happens to be my favorite food!) many fond memories since then. You and your family are in our prayers. Joan and Gail

Sending prayers and kind thoughts to you Julie and all those who loved and cared for Bob throughout his life, and especially his health battle the past 5 years.
I was proud to work as a colleague with Bob at Appleseed Middle School, and know he was a favorite of many students and all the staff that taught there.
May the many happy times embellish the memories of him and his specialness to all of you.

So many good memories were made during our years of teaching together. His smile and laugh instantly made you feel special. Many of us will remember the shared times in the teacher's lounge or out on the dock. He is and will be part of special memories.
