Robert Gingery

Robert "Bob" James Gingery was born March 12th , 1929 to Clark and Emma (Seinoha) of Bonesteel, SD. He was a big brother to Catherine, Billy, Betty Jean, Larry, Margaret, and Darlene. Bob was raised on the family farm north of Bonesteel and graduated from Bonesteel High School in 1946. In October 1951, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served two years including a station assignment in Alaska during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military service, Bob returned home to begin farming north of Gregory with his Uncle Willie. On January 16, 1955, Bob married Shirley Ann King. The couple had four children: Roland, who died at childbirth, Robert (Bobby), Rhonda, and Roger. The couple spent the next 50 years building a life together on the farm. The family grew up attending Dixon Baptist Church. They later attended First Southern Baptist Church of Dallas and Gregory. They enjoyed playing cards, visiting with neighbors, and Bingo. Their grandchildren have many fond memories of their "Bingo Adventures." Bob was a member of IOOF Lodge and a 62-year member of Hutchison Post #6 American Legion both of Gregory. He was also a member of many bowling teams over the years. These activities all led to many good friends throughout his life. Like many farmers in our community, Bob believed in the value of hard work and loved hunting and fishing. Those values were passed along to his children and grandchildren. Roger often comments on how thankful he is for learning how to work hard. Bob was grateful for the time he and Roger got to spend together each year on their annual deer hunt. Many will miss Bob's sense of humor. From little children to little old ladies, no one was off limits from his jokes and pranks. After losing his hand in a corn-picker accident, he loved to tell kids how an alligator bit it off. He also received frequent scolding from Shirley for pulling the pigtails of little girls in front of him during church service. In September of 2005, Shirley lost her battle with cancer. Bob missed her every day since. He moved to his new home at Avera Rosebud Country Care in August of 2008. Bob continued to enjoy Bingo, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the Cubs, Vikings, and Gorillas. His family is thankful for the love and care he received as a resident while being completely spoiled by the staff. Thankful for sharing his life are his daughter Rhonda (Russ) Grim, Gregory, son Roger (Renay) Gingery, Plano, TX; grandchildren Damon (Adrian) Mitchell, Longmont, CO, Lessli Gingery, Harrisburg, PA, Micayla Gingery Hubb, McKinney, TX, Virgil (Jackie) Grim, Highlands Ranch, CO, Brian Grim, Ethan, SD, Jason Grim, Gregory, Andy Grim, Gregory, and Dale (Jennifer) Carr, Plano, TX; several great grandchildren; one brother Larry (Freda) Gingery, Dover, OH, four sisters Catherine Pejsa, Chico, CA, Betty Jean (Don) Limbacher, New Philadelphia, OH, Margaret (James) McDonald, Plain City, OH, and Darlene (Kent) Karlen, Rose Hill, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, sons Roland and Robert, brother Billy, granddaughter LaDonna, and both parents. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Funeral services for Robert Gingery, 86, of Gregory, SD, were held Saturday, August, 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Gregory with Pastor Russ Grim officiating. A prayer service was held Friday evening at the church. Music was provided by Colleen Murray and Janice Hogrefe singing "It is Well with My Soul." Congregational songs were "Amazing Grace" and "When We All Get to Heaven" accompanied by Colleen Murray, pianist. Jenis Audiss and Donna Skalla were in charge of registration. Kathy Hannahs and Lana Hannahs Bull Bear were flower attendants. Virgil Grim read the obituary and gave the eulogy. Casket Bearers were Dan Krueger, Allen Veskrna, August Bortz, Al Preslicka, Ed Sinclair, and Gary Skalla. Honorary Casket Bearers were Bob's grandchildren. Military Honors were given by the Gregory American Legion Hutchison Post #6. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Gregory, SD.
