Robert Graham Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2010.
GRAHAM Robert Francis (aka Bob Graham), of Cliffside Park, NJ and formerly of Hells Kitchen, NYC passed into the great mystery at exactly 9:12 AM October 27th, 2010. At his side providing steady support and compassion for each and every final step was his loving son, Rob Graham Jr. Born in NYC on June 4th, 1930 Bob came from humble roots of decent hard working "blue collar" people that knew how to use their hands better than most and were proud of it! His kind and extremely funny sisters Katherine, Dorothy, Margie, and Madeline all helped raise him as best they could. A fighter and a survivor Bob went on to serve his country proudly, fiercely, and honorably as a member of the USMC during the Korean Conflict. Returning home he married his sweetheart Marilyn Keys eventually settling in Hudson County, NJ, and together they raised four children. Following the Korean Conflict, Bob with the help of his Uncle Sammy Milich, a very good man in his own right, was able to get a book with the Steam Fitters Union and became a Pipe Coverer for many years eventually retiring in Cliffside Park, NJ. Bob came from a bloodline with an unusually strong constitution that unless shortened by cancer or hard liquor could easily live until their 90's without problem. Sadly had it not been for the Asbestosis he was exposed to while working his trade there is no doubt he could have racked up another dozen years of "good" life. He had an uncanny way of being able to speak to people for just a few short moments and make them feel comfortable as if they were with a dear old friend. Bob was a "regular guy" with a big smile to greet you, and an ear to listen if you had a problem to share. A decent man who in later years made sure to be helpful and generous to his family in times of need as well as to strangers. He will always be remembered as a kind man with not a mean bone in his body. All of his four children carry their many different individual "unforgettable" moments of seeing their dear Dad in action and each and every one of them would be willing to overlook any faults and say so very easily that they truly loved their Dad, Bob Graham. His children, Brian, Rob, Susan, and Elizabeth, cousins and nieces will soon get together to tell old stories. Some of them will be about Bob. An Irish Piper will play in the background while the USMC Color Guard bestows upon him what he earned, the flag of his country. The honor this day will be all his and his family will be very very proud in that moment. He will be missed. Services to be held from 2-6 PM on Saturday the 30th of October at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home at 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ. All are welcome.

My Dear Friends Brian and Robbie, I will always remember your Dad as a person that greeted me with a Smile a Funny story or words of Wisdom, I always listened closely to your Dad! He always seemed to know or understand what was missing for me or what would encourage me to enjoy the next steps in my life, even if it was just outside his door. In the end, all we are left with are memories! When thinking about your Dad, I will smile and remember his warmth, his embracing welcome for me and most of all his words of wisdom and encouragement. This is the greatest tribute I can think of for anyone's life, to leave memories of love and warmth. The Puthe's wish and will pray for comfort and strength for the entire Family. I will continue to listen closely to both my dear friends Brian and Robbie as Bob left this earth with at least two people who make me smile and share words of wisdom and encouragement. Dad will be missed but not forgotten! God Bless Brian, Robbie, Sue, Liza and all the grandchildren...
