Memorial services for Robert Lee Hargrave Sr., 83, of Tyler, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at First Baptist Church with Rev. B C. McCoy officiating. The graveside service will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Mr. Hargrave passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at his residence.

Mr. Hargrave was born on Aug. 24, 1923, in Antlers, Okla., to the late Thomas Miles and Ruth Mayo Helm Hargrave. He was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He has lived in Tyler since 1952 and was a pharmacist and co-owner of Griffin-Hargrave Pharmacy. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Willow Brook Country Club. He enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Hargrave of Tyler; sons, Robert Hargrave Jr. and wife Peer of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Thomas Hargrave and his wife Cindy of Longwood, Fla.; daughter, Karen Hargrave of Hidalgo Nuevo Leon, Mexico; grandchildren, Bronwyn Benito, Angharad Vaughan, Courtney Hargrave, Beck Hargrave, Sutinya Butcher, Aliya Hargrave, Robert Lee Hargrave III, Mariena Hargrave; and great-grandchildren, Jaden Butcher and Jett Hargrave.

Pallbearers are Robert Lee Hargrave Jr., Robert Lee Hargrave III, Thomas Hargrave, Beck Hargrave, John Stephenson and Robert Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers are Bob Breedlove, Mike Breedlove, Richard Babb, Paul Duval, Clint Roxburgh, Tom Brogan, Noel Robert, Jim Deason and John Shaw,

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dad's message was simple. Always do your best, always tell the truth and be true in your walk through life, make a contribution in the world around you and into the lives of the people in your world. He practiced what he preached. It is very hard for us to believe he is gone, but we all take great joy knowing he is now with the Lord.

Mr. Hargrave was a true gentleman and he had a great influence on my life as I was growing up as he did with so many young people. He was a person you could use as a model for your own life.
