Obituary of Robert James "Bob" Harness

Robert James "Bob" Harness passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at his home in High Point, North Carolina. He was born on November, 18, 1937 in the community of Wiley's Cove, Leslie, Arkansas, to Nolen Elmo Harness & Opal Sutterfield Harness.

Bob grew up in Leslie, and North Little Rock. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1955. He attended college at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Bob worked for various companies as an accountant, controller and regional controller where he retired from the former Dairymen, Inc. a dairy farmer coop. In retirement, Bob worked part-time at the Oak Hollow Golf Course. He was also a Senior Tax Advisor for 12 years for H&R Block, where he found great rewards in getting good refunds for his clients. An avid golfer, Bob was a member of the Oak Hollow Golf Association where he served as Treasurer for several years. He was also a member of the High Point Super Seniors Golf Association. Bob was proud of being able to say he had two holes-in-one in his lifetime!!

Bob is survived by his loving spouse of 53 years, Pat; his sons, James (Mili) Harness of Archdale; Paul (Angie) Harness of Concord; and daughter, Barbara Harness of High Point; granddaughters, Heather, Victoria, Allison, and Francesca "Franchi." He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Sue Harness Nunnally of Conway, Arkansas; a nephew, Dr. Frederick Kent (Karin Lynn) Nunnally; and a niece, Karen Jane Nunnally (Patrick) Blaylock. Last but not least, he leaves his little furry buddy, Sam, of the home. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Nolen Elmo Harness; his mother, Opal Sutterfield Harness; and brother-in-law Fred Nunnally.

A funeral service will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point, NC, at 11 am on Friday, September 18. A visitation will be at IHM, 4145 Johnson Ave. HP, NC at 6-8pm on Thursday, September 17. Family will be greeting friends & relatives at this time. Inurnment will be at the IHM Columbarium following the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Building Fund of IHM. The family wants to extend the most heartfelt thank you to the caregivers of Hospice of the Piedmont, Dawn, Donna, Faith, Felna and Crystal. I worked with Bob for 12 years at H&R Block. He was a true gentleman, a wonderful family man, and a great co-worker. He was always willing to share his considerable knowledge and expertise, had a great sense of humor, and truly cared about his clients. He will be missed!

Dear Pat and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I remember eight years ago when we were looking at lots for our homes and you mentioned that you definitely wanted your home on Harness to match your last name. Bob was a great neighbor and he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

My most sincere condolences to the family. Bob was a very special fellow and a good friend. I played golf with him at Oak Hollow many times, and he loved the game. He was a competitive individual, and tough a opponent, but one of the players that you wanted on your team. He always worked hard with the golf association trying to make it better, and he was successful. He was just that way, an extremely admirable guy that will greatly be missed. My prayers will be for his loved ones.
