Robert Dale Haug

Robert Dale Haug, age 61, of Kennewick, Washington passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 at home. Rob was born in Richland, Washington to Dale and Mary Haug. He attended school in Kennewick, graduating from Kennewick High School in 1966. After three years at Washington State University, Rob enlisted in the Navy, serving his country for four years as a Navy air traffic controller. He then returned to WSU to complete his studies, graduating in 1975 with a degree in education. Rob moved back to the Tri-Cities to begin his teaching career at his alma mater, Kennewick High School. He taught English for 32 years at KeHS, earning a Master's in education along the way, before retiring in 2007. He leaves behind his loving wife of ten years, Mariana, his sons Brendan and Rhys, and many students who count "Mr. Haug" among their favorite teachers. He is also survived by his brothers Rick, Steve, Doug, his sisters Judy, Nancy, Sheila and their families. He will be greatly missed by the guys at the Tri-City Athletic Club, his teaching buddies and many dear friends. As befits a teacher for many years, Rob was a great believer in the intrinsic value of education. His love of books, music and the pursuit of knowledge was palpable and he passed it along to his children. In time, the memories of Rob's difficult final years will fade. We will remember instead his humor and his passion for literature, language, history and the simple pleasure of learning. There will be a Celebration of Rob's life on Wednesday, March 24th, at 3:00pm, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick, with a gathering of family and friends immediately following the service.
