LEWISBURG - Robert Meyers Heyman, 76, of Lewisburg passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at his home.
He was born May 3, 1928, in Williamsport, the son of the late Israel and Bertha (Rosen) Heyman. He was married to the former Connie M. Michelson for 51 years.
He was a 1946 graduate of Milton High School and attended Bucknell University for two years, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity.
Master Sgt. Heyman served in the Army from 1948 to 1952 in the Korean War as a military intelligence officer.
After leaving school, Mr. Heyman went to work for the family business, Reliable Furniture Co., Milton. He took over the operation of the business after his father's death in 1969, a position he held until he retired in 1993. He and his wife also owned and operated the Hotel Milton from 1984 to 1988.
He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth El of Sunbury, where he was a board member for many years.
Mr. Heyman was a 50-year member of the Milton American Legion and a member of the Milton Lions Club, Elks and Moose Lodge.
As a member of Milton's chamber of commerce, he was actively involved in many revitalization projects.
He was the first president of Milton's YMCA Teen Canteen and a founding member of Milton's Annual Tomato Harvest Festival.
He served on Union County's Mental Health-Mental Retardation Board for many years.
Following retirement, he was a volunteer at Evangelical Community Hospital.
He enjoyed golf, Ping-Pong, bowling and spending time with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 51 years, are one daughter and son-in-law, Mindy B. and Eric Miklas of North East, Md., and their children, Adam and Lauren; son and his fiancee, Stephen E. Heyman and Fay Shaffer of New Columbia, and his son, Aaron of Northumberland, and daughter, Taylor Bray of Orlando, Fla.; son, Mark A. Heyman and his wife Diane of Memphis, Tenn., and their son Grant; and one sister, Marlene Mallinger of Pittsburgh.
The funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Congregation Beth El, 249 Arch St., Sunbury. Officiating will be Rabbi Nina Mandell.
Burial will be in Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Northumberland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Heyman's memory may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494, or Temple Beth-El Building Fund in care of Alan Adler, Congregation Beth-El, 249 Arch St., Sunbury, PA 17801.
Arrangements are under the care of the John H. Shaw III Shaw Funeral Home, 801 Market St., Lewisburg.
