THE LATE ROBERT EDWARD 'BOB' ISSACS WAS ONE OF THE FINEST INDIVIDUALS I HAVE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF KNOWING - AND I HAVE KNOWN HIM ALL MY LIFE. HE WAS A JOY, REFRESHING TO BE WITH, A TRUE FRIEND WHO GAVE GOOD ADVICE AND BLESSED WITH SUCH A SWEET DISPOSITION, HE WAS, ABOVE ALL, JUST A PLEASURE TO BE WITH.

BOB ISSACS, NATURALLY TOO, WAS ONE OF THE MOST GIFTED ATHLETIC TALENTS IN THE BAHAMIAN 20TH CENTURY WHO EXCELLED AT ALL SPORTS. NAME IT: FROM CRICKET TO BASEBALL FROM RUGBY TO SOFTTBALL, I EVEN REMEMBER BOB ISSACS SCORING THE ONLY GOAL AGAINST A SOUTH AMERICAN SIDE IN AN INTERNATIONAL TEST MATCH ON FORT CHARLOTTE. HE WAS ALSO, COINCIDENTALY, THE OLDEST PLAYER ON EITHER SIDE.
BOTH SIDES APPLAUDED HIM.
THE ISSACS FAMILY, OR MORE SPECIFICALLY NED ISSACS BOB'S FATHER, ENCOURAGED ALL THE OFFSPRING, BOYS AND GIRLS, TO ENTHUSIASTICALLY EMBRACE ACADEMICS AND ATHLETICS EQUALLY. THAT SOUND MIND IN A SOUND BODY CONCEPT THAT WAS NATURALLY A PART OF BAHAMIAN SECONDARY EDUCATION A HALF CENTURY AGO.
IT HAS WORKED SPLEDIDLY FOR THE ISSACS FAMILY.

BOB ISSACS EXCELLED IN ALL SPORTS BUT TENNIS WAS THE FAMILY'S SPECIALITY. BOB, AS A KID IN THE 1930'S,EVEN REPRESENTED THE BAHAMAS ON A TENNIS TOUR TO SOME SOUTHERN BLACK COLLEGES IN THE USA.

GEORGE SYMONETTE THE ENTERTAINER WAS A PART OF THAT TOUR SO LONG AGO. IMAGINE THE SIX FOOT FIVE GEORGE AND THE FIVE FOOT 9 ROB ISSACS AS A DOUBLES PAIR BACK THEN?
THEY DIDNT LOSE BACK THEN, THEY WOULD NOT LOSE NOW!
BOB ISSACS WAS THE ONLY OPPONENT I KNEW WHO YOU WOULD MEET YOU IN A TOURNAMENT, BEAT YOU IN THAT TOURNAMENT, AND THEN SIT YOU DOWN AND PATIENTLY EXPLAIN WHAT YOU DID WRONG.
I WILL ALWAYS APPRECIATE HIM, ADMIRE HIM AND LOVE HIM.
REST IN PEACE.
