Robert Jacobson

Robert Jarl "Jake" Jacobson, 94, passed away on March 17, 2025, in Davidson, North Carolina.

Robert was born on March 7, 1931, at home in Forest City, Pennsylvania. Robert and his family moved to Tarrytown, New York, during the depression, where he attended Washington Irving High School, before continuing his education at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. After college, he built a long and successful career with AT&T Longlines, where he served as a District Manager, demonstrating leadership and dedication throughout his professional life.

Robert was an avid golfer and tennis player who also enjoyed playing bridge, reading and traveling. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family. Of all of his favorite pastimes, his most treasured was the time he spent with his constant companion, Bailey, a Bichon Friese puppy that he and Kay rescued.

His strength of will was unmatched-he used it to be successful in everything he did; work, sports and his health. Health obstacles he overcame included rheumatic fever, Stage IV bone cancer, Stage IV lymphoma, four additional bouts with cancer, and stenosis of the spine. His perseverance, zest for life, and his willpower were a tremendous inspiration to those who knew him.

Robert and his wife, Kay, were deeply committed to their community and gave generously of their time and resources. They supported numerous charitable organizations, including Meals on Wheels, a Cancer Survivors Support Group, Habitat for Humanity, The Emerald Golf and Tennis Club, and the Greenbrier Homeowners Association. His contributions left a deep and lasting impact on all of those around him.

He was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of New Bern, North Carolina, where his wife was an elder and he served as an usher for over 15 years. Over the years he and Kay built long and deep relationships with many close neighbors and friends -- The Jorgenson's, Soders', Alexander's, Teed's, Benson's, Burt Harrison, Ellen Gayle, Maria Palmer and his good friend and neighbor, Santhappa Nayak.

Robert is survived by his sons, Andrew Jacobson and his wife Nancy; Peter Jacobson and his wife Lisa; his brother James Jacobson and his wife Sonia; and five grandchildren: Ann Jacobson, Alice Jacobson, Beatrice Jacobson, Kristin Jacobson, and Lindsey Jacobson. Also, his step children Angie Smith and Pam Boes and their extended families. He was predeceased by his father Andrew "Sverre" Jacobson; his mother Mollie Cutspec Jacobson; his first wife Claire Gatyas Jacobson; his brother Harry Jacobson; and his loving wife Kay Slorp Jacobson.

His legacy of resilience and generosity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

Bob and his wife Kay will be interred in the family plot in Mendham, New Jersey. At that time, a Celebration of Life Service will be held in their honor.
