I was sorry to read this morning of the death of Bob Jens of HHS. He grew up in south Hammond and I knew his family when I was a kid at Edison School. Bob's dad had the high status of driving a fire engine for the Hammond Fire Department. All of the kids thought that was pretty neat. Bob had a nice family and were always welcoming to me. RIP, Bob, and blessings to your family. - Richard Barnes, Ph.D., HHS '59 / Hammond Sports Hall of Fame, 2020

My heart hurts since I saw this. Bob was a friend in high school. From our "camping" trip to Ohio and double dating to junior prom he was a true friend. The world has one less friendly soul. RIP.

Bob was my first-cousin on my father's side ... many times over the years I asked him to help me transport building materials from places like HomeDepot and Menards ... and just about every time he dropped everything to get it done that same day ... every time he picked me up he was listening to classical music on a CD in that big blue truck ... he was easy to work with and I cannot recall a single contentious moment with him since our childhood in the 60s.
