Robert J "Bob" Johnson, 88, of Onawa passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa. Robert was born on October 12, 1925, in rural Salix, Woodbury County, Iowa, the ninth and youngest child of Rudolph Edward & Anna Ingeborg nee Seagren Johnson. Bob was united in marriage to P. Elaine Woods on Feb. 14, 1954, in Onawa, where they also made their home. Robert was reared in rural Onawa, attending country school and graduated from Onawa High School in 1944. During his youth, Bob worked on the Magnus Crawford farm and Todd's Grocery Store; after high school for the Corp of Engineers as a willow tender for the Missouri River bank stabilization project. He then became a commercial fisherman in Alaska for 16 years and operated a ballroom in Missouri Valley during the off-fishing season. In 1961 began working as a salesman and later became a well-known carpenter in the local area. He was a devote Christian and member of the Onawa United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men's Club, and leader for the adult Sunday school for several years. Bob was also a former member of the Masonic and Shriners organizations. He enjoyed dancing, playing card games, and visiting with family and friends through the years. He loved, and was loved by his wife of 60 years, Elaine "Bunny" of Onawa and three sons, Dennis O. (Betty) Johnson of Brainerd, MN; Eric L. (Jacqueline) Johnson of Cane Valley, KY, former daughter-in-law, (Janice L. Johnson Robotham) of North Ft Myers, FL; and Michael R. Johnson of Onawa, IA. Six grandchildren, Rochelle M. (Shawn) Filiowich of Andover, MN and Eric D. (Susan) Johnson of Minneota, MN; Kevin E. Johnson and Jennifer L. (Heiko) Remecz of North Ft Myers, FL; Jeffery R. (Stacy) Johnson of Wooster, OH and Matthew K. (Nicole) Johnson of St. Charles, IL; nine great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, two step great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and special friend Greg Shuck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph (1937) & Anna (1967) and eight siblings, Hazel M., Conley Earl, Iva Irene Hopkins, Rollie Delaney, Alta A., Leroy E., and twins, Mina Faye and Ina May.
