Robert MacDonald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2012.
Cape Cod native, Robert Leonard MacDonald of Forestdale, died surrounded by loved ones at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness. He was 61 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Maryellen (Carloni-Gifford) MacDonald of Forestdale; his stepson, Lon Gifford of Hyannis and his wife Eva-Lynn, and his cherished grandson, Jack; his siblings, and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was the son of William and Mary MacDonald and shared his Scottish/Canadian heritage with his sisters, Dorothy Gates of Bourne and June Nese of Osterville, and brothers, William and Douglas MacDonald of Hyannis.

He worked for the Barnstable Highway Department from 1971 – 1976. Then he moved on to become Media Specialist/Auditorium Supervisor for the Sandwich Public School System for 15 years. His interest in computer technologies let him to the position of Director of Design and Development for Cape Internet. In 2000 he launched his own internet service company, Old Cape Cod. Com. He was proud to have had many successful clients. He also maintained a network of webcams across the Cape including those provided by the Cape Cod Online.com.

He enjoyed drawing and was an accomplished photographer. But, his passion was music. As a songwriter, guitarist, bass guitarist, and a keyboard player he had achieved a level of musicianship that he only dreamed of at a young age. He played with several bands, the latest of which was "The Wood Bees".

All who knew him will remember him as a kind, patient and creative person, but foremost, as a loving husband and stepfather and as Jack's devoted Grandpa and Buddy.

Visiting hours will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A in Sandwich, followed by a Mass of Christian to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 324 Quaker Meeting House Road in East Sandwich. Burial will be in the Sandwich Town Cemetery.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Robert at Cape Internet, but what gave us both greater joy was playing music together. Robert sat in with our band occasionally, and always brought good humor, great conversation and kickin' bass licks to the sessions. His love for his family was always apparent, through his actions and his words. He was a friend to many, and he will be greatly missed throughout his communities.

We are in deep denial of Robert's (Roberto's) passing, he was a great friend and mentor, he had a deep knowledge about everything. The thing that we loved about Robert the most was his humor and upbeat attitude. He constantly talked about his loving wife Maryellen and his family. May you draw on the strength of your friends and family and knowing that he was called upon by the Lord to serve Him. Our thoughts and prayers will always be there for you and your family to hold onto.. Carol and Errick Jones (Mashpee, MA)

I have some great memories of my time with Mr. MacDonald, teaching us about computers and graphic arts at the Wing School. He was a patient and intelligent man. My sympathy goes out to all of his family.

Mary Ellen,
I was deeply saddened to hear about Robert. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to work with him at Wing for so many years. Robert was much more than the A.V. specialist. He was truly a friend.

I will always remember his incredibly sharp wit and his delightfully dry sense of humor. May the memory of 23 wonderful years together help you through the difficult times.

Dear Mrs. MacDonald and all of the MacDonald family,
I had the pleasure of knowing Robert (and Mrs. MacDonald) while I was at Sandwich Public Schools, and have Robert to thank for recommending me for a summer job at CapeInternet. In both of those roles, Robert was a good man with a lot of energy and a good sense of humor.

My sympathies and prayers are with you.

Rob was a very talented man. The short time I knew him, he was kind and warm towards me. May Rob finally be without anymore pain, or suffering. It was a blessing to get to know him, and a joy listening to his music one last time.
