Robert Eugene "Gene" McAlister, Sr.

Robert Eugene "Gene" McAlister Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loved ones.

Gene was born on April 11, 1934, to Mamie and Wesley "Jeff" Jefferson McAlister in Belmont, NC.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as an Aviation Machinist Mate in the United States Navy for 7 years. Following his military service, Gene devoted his life to his family, caring for his beloved wife and raising his children and several grandchildren. He was an avid reader, enjoying literature and solving crossword puzzles. Gene also had a passion for music, which brought him great joy throughout his life. His family loved to hear and see him dance in the kitchen during get-togethers.

Gene was preceded in death by his sons, Paul Daniel I and Coaley Ray McAlister, and his siblings; sister Alma Ruth, and brothers Frank Jefferson, Dannie O'Neal, Ray Nolen, as well as his parents, Mamie and Wesley "Jeff" Jefferson McAlister and his half-brother Willie Warren.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary (n? Hooper) McAlister, and his children Anna Denise Leonard, Robert "Pete" McAlister Jr., Frank McAlister, and Brittany McAlister, as well as his 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Gene's memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on through his family. Rest in peace, Papa.

A funeral service will be held 5pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 South York Rd, in Gastonia.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Interment is private.
