Robert J. McGonigal

Robert J. McGonigal, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in North Cape May, NJ, on April 5, 2023. He was the son of the late Katherine and James McGonigal of Darby, PA, where Bob grew up. He graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1959 and served in the US Army reserves during the 1960's. In 1964, Bob married his wife, Jane, and settled in Ardmore, PA, where they raised their son Bob Jr. and where they lived until their retirement. During this period, Bob was a long-time coach for Ardwood baseball and Sts. Colman-John Neumann School. He was also a life-long fan of Notre Dame football and enjoyed annual trips to ND games with his friends Bob and Midge Clark of Stone Harbor, NJ. The biggest joy of Bob's life was spending time with his granddaughter Haley, often bringing her to the Jersey Shore and taking her to the boardwalk, parades, concerts and fireworks. Bob is survived by his wife Jane (nee Gibson), his son and daughter-in-law Bob and Karen, his beloved granddaughter Haley, his sister Winnie Kerno and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by the following siblings: Catherine Burke, Rosemary Hewitt, Edith Hewitt, and Frances, Jim and Jack McGonigal. Donations may be made in Bob's memory to CADES, 401 Rutgers Avenue, Swarthmore, PA 19081, which his granddaughter attended for 18 years. (CADES= Children & Adult Disability and Educational Services.)
