It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Robert Christopher Schortau, lovingly known as Bob, on the 9th of October, 2023, in Bolivia, North Carolina. Born on the 10th of May, 1941, in Hackensack, New Jersey, Bob spent his childhood in the town of Bogota, New Jersey. He later established his cherished home in Hillsdale, New Jersey, before retiring to the serene town of Calabash, North Carolina.

Bob was a man of great honor and devotion, especially to his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment, survived by his two sons, Robert James Schortau and William Christopher Schortau, his daughter-in-law, Kristy Wasalski, and his adored grandchildren, Leighton, Ella, and Nausicaa. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diana Schortau, whose memory he held dear until his final breath.

Bob's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his country, as he served with distinction in the Army.

Beyond his military service, Bob found solace in his cherished hobbies and interests. He possessed an insatiable curiosity for current events, always staying informed and engaged with the world around him. His love for collecting stamps and coins was a testament to his appreciation for history and the artistry of the past. Additionally, Bob's passion for gardening earned him the esteemed title of a master gardener.

In the spirit of honoring Bob's remarkable life, a small gathering of friends and family will be held after the New Year. This occasion will provide an opportunity for all who knew and loved Bob to come together and pay their respects. Further details regarding the service will be communicated at a later date. The compassionate professionals at Coastal Cremations, located in Carolina Shores, North Carolina, have been entrusted with the sacred responsibility of assisting the family during this difficult time.
